Book Reveals Kamala Harris Campaign’s Failed Bet on Joe Rogan Podcast, Beyoncé Performance

Back in October 2024, securing an invitation for Vice President Kamala Harris on Joe Rogan’s podcast and arranging for Beyoncé to perform “Freedom” at a Houston rally were always going to be tough tasks, according to reports from The Hollywood Reporter, as these were part of the secretive negotiations aimed at revitalizing a struggling U.S. presidential campaign.

In the forthcoming book titled, “Fight: Unveiling the Wildest Battle for the White House,” authors Jonathan Allen and Ami Parnes lift the veil to disclose that Harris campaign advisers wagered on the impact of an appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience podcast and Beyoncé’s performance of their campaign theme song at a Houston rally, believing it could sway crucial votes from young white men and women in a tight contest against former President Donald Trump.

As reported in a piece from Fight published on NBC News’ website on Thursday, the Harris campaign was unable to negotiate terms for an appearance on the Joe Rogan podcast, while Trump secured a successful interview instead.

Unfortunately, Beyoncé announced that she would address the crowd at the Houston rally, yet declined to perform. As Allen and Parnes put it in their forthcoming book by HarperCollins Publishers, “No Rogan, no ‘Freedom.’ The campaign tried to maintain a cool demeanor, but they had drawn a losing card,” (based on an excerpt).

The setback suffered by the Harris campaign’s strategy was particularly damaging because it was discovered that the Texas rally was strategically planned to bring Harris to Rogan’s studio in Houston at a critical moment, when crucial and clandestine talks about a potential deal were nearing completion.

In Houston, when Beyoncé appeared on stage, but didn’t perform, it wasn’t as advantageous for Harris and her campaign as an interview with Joe Rogan would have been in terms of reaching white males, a demographic that Harris needed to connect with during the final stages of the presidential election.

HarperCollins shares that the book titled “Fight” presents an account behind-the-scenes, derived from more than 150 interviews with individuals within key political circles – including those surrounding Trump, Harris, Biden, as well as party heads and campaign strategists.
