As a dedicated cinephile, I was thrilled to witness the return of Netflix’s “The Night Agent” for its Season 2 on January 23, 2025, following a two-year break. Unsurprisingly, it swiftly climbed to the top of Netflix’s rankings, reflecting the high anticipation among fans. Yet, the intricate plot twists and turns that unfolded throughout the season took me aback, particularly the tragic demise of Farhad Taheri, the brother of Noor Taheri – a heartbreaking loss indeed.

In Season 2, the series takes a turn as Peter ventures into international waters, facing adversaries from various countries. Following his successful prevention of President Travers’ assassination in Season 1, Peter is formally enlisted as a Night Agent and embarks on his first assignment. Yet, the road is seldom easy for Peter, and his mission in Season 2 was no exception. Tragically, his partner, Alice, meets her end, causing Peter to go underground and become embroiled in events that have far-reaching implications. One such impact includes the death of Farhad, a character who loses his life in Iran.

How Did Farhad Die in ‘The Night Agent’?

Farhad Taheri was the sibling of Noor Taheri, a minor staff member at the Iranian embassy in New York at the United Nations. Noor chose to disclose confidential data from the embassy to the Americans with the aim of obtaining asylum for her family. Unfortunately, during the rescue operation, Farhad met an untimely death.

Upon reaching the family residence in Iran, Sami, the designated rescuer for Noor’s kin, discovers that Noor’s mother hadn’t informed Farhad about their imminent relocation to America. This unexpected revelation leaves Farhad in a state of shock, prompting him to resist and decline the move. In his resistance, he unwittingly involves his neighbors and unintentionally attracts the attention of the police as well.

After Noor successfully persuades Farhad to depart, it’s evident that the harm has already been inflicted. The authorities are chasing after Sami, Farhad, and their mother, Azita. To complicate things further, Farhad reconsiders his decision during their trip and asks for a stop. Utilizing a diversion provided by the police, Farhad brandishes a firearm at Sami in a desperate bid to remain. Despite Sami’s efforts to pacify him, Farhad discharges the weapon. In response, Sami fires back, resulting in an instantaneous death of Farhad.

The Consequences of Farhad’s Death in ‘The Night Agent’

As a devoted cinephile, I’d put it this way: While Farhad’s demise didn’t significantly rewrite the plot of “The Night Agent,” it undeniably reshaped my bond with Peter and his team – particularly with Noor. In an attempt to secure the information from me, Peter deceived me by concealing Farhad’s death, claiming that both Azita and Farhad had boarded the plane with Sami. Even Rose, wrestling with her own ethical quandary, fed me a white lie, asserting that my brother was merely injured during the extraction rather than being killed.

At the Iranian Mission, it’s only when Noor is summoned to identify her brother’s body that she discovers the truth. This revelation serves to strengthen her suspicions towards the Americans. Upon reflection, Noor realizes she had been tricked by Peter, Rose, and Catherine into handing over the stolen intelligence, which they manipulated so she wouldn’t withdraw from them.

In a surprising twist, Farhad’s demise sheds light on another facet of Peter’s character. Initially, we saw him as a person upholding strong moral values and ethics during Season 1. However, the second season presents a different picture of him, particularly in his response to Farhad’s passing. This incident reveals that Peter prioritizes his mission above what might be morally right, as shown by his deception of Noor. Before the release of the season, the show’s creator Shawn Ryan hinted at viewers encountering Peter grappling with ethically questionable situations in Season 2.

Through the book, we discover that Peter is an exceptionally moral and principled individual who always chooses what’s right. In Season 2, we aimed to make it harder for him to determine the correct course of action, forcing him to grapple with his decisions. One episode shows us that he finds deceit distasteful, yet he resorts to it for a higher purpose. Placing a character like Peter in a morally ambiguous profession was an exciting development for Season 2, as it allowed us to explore the challenges he faced.

Could Farhad’s Death Have Been Avoided in ‘The Night Agent’?

The tragic demise of Farhad unfolded through a chain of unfortunate events, starting with the hasty evacuation plan and culminating in Sami’s fatal gunshot. However, his death didn’t significantly impact the overall storyline. A thought-provoking question emerges: Couldn’t Farhad have lived to experience the joy of Noor reuniting with her mother and brother in America after all the perils she faced on their behalf? This alternative ending might have carried a deeper emotional resonance.

1. There were several possibilities for preventing Farhad’s demise.
2. It was possible to avoid Farhad’s death in several different ways.
3. Farhad might have lived if certain actions had been taken.
4. Had certain events unfolded differently, Farhad would still be alive.
5. If a few circumstances had been altered, Farhad could have survived.
6. There were various paths that could have led to Farhad’s survival.
7. In several scenarios, it was possible for Farhad to avoid death.
8. With different choices made, Farhad might have escaped death.
9. If things had gone differently, Farhad would not have perished.
10. Under various conditions, Farhad could have evaded death.

In a different set of circumstances, Farhad might have had a brighter, more fortunate end. However, it’s important to note that no single individual should be held responsible for Farhad’s demise. Each character acted based on their unique motivations, including Sami, who reacted instinctively by firing the shot. Given the various opportunities where Farhad’s death could have been averted and its minimal impact on The Night Agent Season 2 plotline, it is unfortunate that Farhad’s demise stands out as the most regrettable among the series. The reality of the worst-case scenarios unfolding led to Farhad’s tragic death. The Night Agent can be streamed on Netflix.
