Dear Matlock enthusiasts, the long-awaited moment has arrived! The highly anticipated CBS drama featuring Kathy Bates is back as part of its 2025 TV schedule. Right off the bat, the series dived into the action, swiftly addressing the cliffhanger from the Fall finale. This resolution came sooner than I had anticipated.

The revelation of Julian’s romantic partner has sparked a new theory about who the main antagonist in Matlock might be. If you haven’t watched “Friends” yet, it’s high time you did! Paramount+ subscribers, this is your sign to catch up now.

It has been discovered that Julian’s secret relationship was with Shae “The Meerkat” Banfield. Interestingly, as Olympia shared over drinks with Madeline, it turns out that they all came together because of the Welbrexa case, as they were all connected to it in some way.

As a movie enthusiast, I must say that Matlock didn’t delve too deeply into the matter at hand, but Madeline Kingston appeared to have uncovered enough evidence to remove Olympia from the Welbrexa trail and replace her with Shae instead. Frankly, I can’t fault her logic given that The Meerkat was also exposed as a Welbrexa employee communicating with Jacobson Moore.

Gathering all the loose ends in sight right now, here’s my interpretation of the situation: Shae Banfield’s involvement with Jacobson Moore’s project Welbrexa, coupled with allegations of her disrupting the relationship between Julian and Olympia, suggests that she might be acting as a potential troublemaker or saboteur.

It seems plausible that she is the one who falsified senior partner Howard Markston’s signature to ensure the important file disappeared. If this assumption holds, it raises concerns that a supposed “human lie detector” could be a master deceiver herself, as she might have orchestrated an entire case of corporate wrongdoing and potentially put Madeline Kingston’s daughter at risk. So, who will have the difficult task of informing Maddy about this troubling situation directly?

In my proposal for a Matlock Christmas episode, I had anticipated more scenes featuring Shae Banfield. It seems that desire will be fulfilled. However, it appears that the legendary monkey’s paw has come into play, as Shae Banfield may now transform into one of the most sinister characters in Jacobson Moore.

In an unexpected turn of events, Julian and Olympia have come to an agreement on a high-stakes professional bet. According to Julian’s terms:

On a positive note, Matty and Olympia have become work colleagues now, providing Madeline Kingston with an excellent opportunity to delve deeper into the truth about the Welbrexa conspiracy. Earlier apprehensions about Matty joining pharma seem to hold some weight, as our silver-haired detective will continue to divide her time between the disputing former power couple.

If anyone was considering canceling their Thursday night meeting with Madeline Kingston, let me tell you, it might not be so easy. The plot on Matlock is getting quite tangled, and I believe many of us would concur that we should stick around to find out what happens next.

In the future, the distinctive whistle from the original theme song of the popular CBS show might no longer be heard, given how intense and serious the stories have become. Therefore, I believe it could be appropriate to bid farewell to this iconic sound effect. The court will reconvene next week on Thursday’s episode titled “Crash Helmets On,” which doesn’t seem risky in the least!
