Initially, Insomniac Games’ Spider-Man 2 was only available on PlayStation consoles. However, similarly to games like The Last of Us and Horizon, it is now also playable on a PC system.
Despite its AAA status, some fans are concerned that their systems might not support playing “Spider-Man 2”. Fortunately, the developers at Nixxes have provided a list of suggested specifications to guarantee a seamless experience for Peter Parker and Miles Morales’s newest adventure on your PC.
PC Specs for Spider-Man 2
Although Insomniac was responsible for creating the game, Nixxes Software was assigned to adapt it for PC play. Here’s a list of suggested specifications to run Spider-Man 2 smoothly on your computer:
1. Operating System: Windows 10 64-bit
2. Processor: Intel Core i5-3470 or AMD FX-6300
3. Memory: 8 GB RAM
4. Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960 or AMD Radeon R9 280X with at least 4GB of VRAM
5. DirectX: Version 11
6. Storage: 70 GB available space
7. Additional Notes: An SSD is recommended for faster loading times, and a dedicated graphics card is required to play the game.
Though optimized for powerful gaming computers, the creators at Nixxes have additionally verified that the game has been reduced in graphics quality to make it playable on older PC systems, as detailed in a recent PlayStation blog post.
At Nixxes, we’re equally proud of creating PC games that can be played smoothly even on older hardware. To accommodate this, the upcoming “Marvel’s Spider-Man 2” for PC comes with a variety of graphics settings and presets, including ones without ray-tracing and dynamic resolution scaling as options.
What’s New for Spider-Man 2 on PC?
Even though the PlayStation 5 boasts impressive capabilities, the PC version of Spider-Man 2 offers unique features as highlighted in the official trailer.
- Upscaling and Frame Generation
- Ultra Widescreen Support
- Ray-Traced Shadows and Ambient Occlusion
- Improved Ray-Traced Reflections
- DualSense Support
As a gamer, I appreciate that the game is playable via my keyboard, but the real game-changer for me is the compatibility with the DualSense controller. Instead of investing in a whole PlayStation 5 setup, I can now connect a DualSense controller to my PC and elevate my gaming experience with its immersive haptic feedback and adaptive triggers.
PSN Account Optional
Initially, players needed a PlayStation Account to enjoy exclusive games such as God of War Ragnarok and Horizon Zero Dawn on PC. However, it’s been announced that Spider-Man 2 will no longer demand a PSN account for playing the game.
Even though it may not initially seem beneficial, creating a PlayStation Network (PSN) account is rumored to provide early access to certain in-game outfits. Therefore, there remains an advantage to setting up such an account.
Future DLC?
While the initial Spider-Man video game released additional content via DLC, no information about further expansions for Spider-Man 2 has been disclosed as of yet. It’s unclear what Insomniac Games are planning for the sequel, but given their focus on the upcoming Wolverine game, which was announced in 2021 and hasn’t received an update since then, it’s plausible that they might be pouring all their efforts into that project at the moment.
It’s possible we might see additional content for “Spider-Man 2” in the future, but at this moment, it appears there are no intentions to further explore the universe of Miles and Peter. This could be due to the mixed reception, though other games, such as a potential “Venom” spinoff, may be in the works—though these have not been officially announced yet.
Spider-Man 2 is now available for PC and PS5.
