Gwen Stefani Admits To Being ‘Jealous’ Of Kelly Clarkson And Reveals How The Voice Coach Inspired Her To Start Writing Again

In a short while, the 27th season of “The Voice” will air on television schedules for the year 2025, and fans are eagerly anticipating the return of Adam Levine to the singing competition. However, the days of the intense rivalry between him and Blake Shelton, as well as the cowboy’s rivalry with Kelly Clarkson, are long past. These long-time friends and most successful coaches on “The Voice” have moved on from the show now. Interestingly, Gwen Stefani confessed that she once felt jealous of Clarkson, and she shared how this jealousy inspired her to begin writing music again.

To clarify, it’s important to note that Gwen Stefani was not envious of Kelly Clarkson’s long-standing friendship with her husband, Blake Shelton. Instead, their friendship blossomed due to their close relationship, which was further strengthened by their time together as coaches on “The Voice.” In the midst of navigating life in 2020, Stefani found it hard to comprehend how Clarkson managed to keep creating amidst all the chaos. During an interview on “Today with Hoda and Jenna,” Stefani expressed her admiration for Clarkson’s ability to remain creative under such challenging circumstances.

As a devoted cinema-goer, I’ve been continually amazed by the stream of melodies that Kelly Clarkson has been sending me. Yet, I found myself questioning, “Hold on, you have little ones! How do you find the time to compose?” She replied, “I work through the night.” This left me puzzled, as here I am juggling baking bread and homeschooling, wondering when I could possibly… And it struck a chord within me; envy crept in. Her compositions were captivating, and I found myself yearning to create some tunes of my own.

Looking back with perfect clarity (a playful reference to the current pandemic), it’s clear that Kelly Clarkson was channeling a great deal of emotional turmoil into her compositions around that period, as she initiated divorce proceedings against Brandon Blackstock in June of that year. Additionally, she was making personal sacrifices by forgoing sleep to create music and manage all the responsibilities Gwen Stefani had, such as caring for their children. (The condition of Clarkson’s sourdough starter remains undisclosed.)

In essence, it’s crucial to find motivation wherever it comes from. If that bold move by Gwen Stefani was the spark she required, then I’m delighted it had an impact. She mentioned that although her three sons with ex-husband Gavin Rossdale have always been her main focus, taking time for herself was significant, she asserted.

Each of us has our unique role. Among the roles I see for myself in life, being a wife and a mother holds significance. However, there’s a special moment when I truly believe I’m making a difference in the world, and that’s when I compose music.

In November 2024, Gwen Stefani brought out her fifth solo studio album titled Bouquet, marking her return since 2017. While Blake Shelton undoubtedly played a role in inspiring some of the music, it seems that their friend Kelly Clarkson also contributed significantly to its creation.

For this season (or maybe forever for Blake Shelton and Kelly Clarkson), these three previous coaches won’t be part of “The Voice”.
