In the words of Vincent D’Onofrio, who plays Wilson Fisk in “Daredevil: Born Again“, the new Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) series will see a significant change for his character. Known for his roles in films like “Full Metal Jacket” and “Men in Black”, D’Onofrio has portrayed Wilson Fisk since the first season of “Daredevil”, which debuted in 2015. Alongside Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock, D’Onofrio’s Fisk made the transition to the MCU early on. He has reprised his role twice within the MCU, appearing in Disney+ shows “Hawkeye” and “Echo”. Throughout his time as the character, D’Onofrio has subtly adapted his physicality for the imposing role. However, in “Born Again”, this transformation will reach new heights.
During a conversation with SFX Magazine, Vincent D’Onofrio hinted at how massive and fearsome Wilson Fisk might become by the conclusion of “Born Again”‘s initial season. Throughout the comics and D’Onofrio’s portrayal, Fisk has always been an intimidatingly large character. He reached his peak size in 2024’s “Echo.” However, D’Onofrio might come even closer to embodying the extreme portrayal of the character from the Spider-Verse films during “Born Again.” The actor stated this himself.
In Season 2, we’ll be focusing on certain aspects that demand a more precise and intricate portrayal of his final size.
In addition to D’Onofrio portraying Wilson Fisk, the upcoming series “Daredevil: Born Again” is reprising Bullseye, played by Wilson Bethel, who first appeared in “Daredevil” season 3. This new show also introduces a new comic book villain for Matt Murdock to confront – Muse. In the Marvel universe, Muse is a ruthless serial killer known for his gruesome artistry; he transforms his victims’ remains into grotesque paintings and murals that reflect his sick namesake. Both Bullseye and Muse were hinted at in the latest “Born Again” trailer, with Muse donning a chilling white mask adorned with blood flowing from his eyes.
‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Will Be the MCU’s Darkest Title So Far
Initially, some spectators felt apprehensive when Marvel Studios incorporated Daredevil and Wilson Fisk into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), fearing that the characters’ gritty style might be softened to align with Disney’s brand. However, Marvel has expressed a firm dedication to preserving the original tone of the Daredevil series. Notably, Daredevil: Born Again, which boasts an 18+ rating in the UK, is expected to be the darkest title within the MCU thus far. This makes it the darkest original Disney+ series produced by Marvel Studios, surpassing the mature content of Netflix’s The Punisher, another character set to appear in Born Again. While some fans argue over whether or not The Punisher is an official MCU member, it previously aired on Netflix with an 18+ rating.
The highly-anticipated new season of Daredevil, titled “Born Again”, is set to debut on Disney+ on March 4th. Comprising a total of 9 episodes, the series will roll out one episode every week. Notably, Marvel Studios has already given the green light for Season 2, and production is slated to commence prior to the March 4 premiere date. Joining Charlie Cox in the cast are Deborah Ann Woll, Elden Henson, Michael Gandolfini, Ayelet Zurer, and Kamar de los Reyes for “Daredevil: Born Again”.
