The Pitt: A Gritty Medical Drama Unfolds in the ER

A unique production from Max, titled “The Pitt“, is a gripping medical drama that delves into a 15-hour span within the emergency department of a fictional Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Hospital. Known for its gritty realism, each episode focuses on an hour of this shift, starting at seven in the morning. Accompanying the senior attending physician, Dr. Robby (Noah Wyle), are medical students and interns on their first day, as they navigate the chaotic yet familiar environment that characterizes working in the ER.

In a truthful depiction of medical professionals in high-stress situations, this show isn’t for the faint-hearted. At any instant, viewers could be confronted with graphic scenes such as a minor cut or a peek inside someone’s chest cavity. Remember, it’s an emergency room we’re talking about. The wide array of characters in The Pitt, a sprawling cast, is quite familiar to many from other TV shows and films. Here are some of the actors you might recognize:

Noah Wyle as Dr. Michael Rabinavitch

As a seasoned movie critic, I must say, the captivating performance of Noah Wyle as Dr. Michael Rabinavitch, affectionately known as Dr. Robby, truly stands out in this production. A character still grappling with the aftermath of Covid-19-related PTSD, Wyle’s portrayal is reminiscent of his iconic roles from the past.

Many of you may recall Wyle from NBC’s blockbuster series, “ER,” where he played the medical student John Carter for an impressive 11 seasons. Additionally, he graced our screens as Flynn Carsen in the “The Librarian” films and subsequent television show on TNT. Lastly, his compelling portrayal of Tom Mason was a highlight of TNT’s series “Falling Skies,” which ran for five seasons. Wyle certainly knows how to captivate an audience!

Tracy Ifeachor as Dr. Heather Collins

Tracy Ifeachor takes on the role of Dr. Heather Collins, a senior resident who frequently has disagreements with Dr. Robby, but these are friendly spats. You may recognize Ifeachor from her performance as Dorothy Smith in the 2023 film “Wonka.” She also played Dede Alexander in Netflix’s 2022 series “Treason” and Tara Coleman in the USA spin-off series of “Bourne Identity,” titled “Treadstone.

Patrick Ball as Dr. Frank Langdon

Patrick Ball portrays Dr. Frank Langdon, a seasoned resident who serves as Dr. Robby’s knowledgeable assistant. Ball doesn’t have numerous acting roles yet in his career. Apart from “The Pitt,” the only credit he has is for an episode of “Law & Order” in 2023, where he played the character Jason Wheeler.

Katherine LaNasa as Dana Evans

Katherine LaNasa skillfully plays the role of Dana Evans, the ER’s charge nurse who expertly maintains order in the chaos. Like Wyle, LaNasa has been acting since the mid-’90s and has appeared in numerous TV shows including 3rd Rock from the Sun, Touched by an Angel, The Practice, and ER. She was a main cast member on Bravo’s Imposters as Sally, had recurring roles on Hulu’s Future Man as Athena/Dr. Hogeveen and Apple TV+’s Truth Be Told as Noa Havilland, and has been in films such as The Squeeze (2015), where she portrayed Jessie, The Campaign (2012) as Rose Brady, and The Lucky Ones (2008) as Janet.

Supriya Ganesh as Dr. Samira Mohan

Supriya Ganesh portrays Dr. Samira Mohan, a third-year medical resident who has been given the nickname of Slow Motion due to her hesitant nature. Ganesh’s latest notable role is in “The Pitt,” but some viewers might recognize her from her appearances in Freeform’s “Grown-ish” as Nova for two episodes, or from her roles in Showtime’s “Billions” as Alexis and NBC’s “Chicago Med” as Katie Foreman. She also played Pamela in the 2022 movie “Pinball: The Man Who Saved the Game.

Fiona Dourif as Dr. Cassie McKay

Fiona Dourif plays the role of Dr. Cassie McKay, a 42-year-old second-year resident who is also a single mother. In 2005, she started her acting career by appearing as Chez Ami Whore in the HBO series Deadwood. Later, she acted as Alice in the FX miniseries Thief, followed by playing Jo Jo in the 2006 film Little Chenier. More recently, audiences might recognize her from the Chucky series where she is credited as Nica Pierce, Chucky, and Charles Lee Ray. She also appeared in ten episodes of NBC’s The Blacklist as Lillian Roth, and played Wheeler in the 2020 film Tenet.

Taylor Dearden as Dr. Melissa King

As a devotee, I’d like to share that I am Taylor Dearden, an actress who brings Dr. Melissa King, a compassionate yet socially awkward second-year resident with a background in working with military veterans, to life on screen. You might recognize me from my role as Sunny Hall in Apple TV+’s “For All Mankind.” Additionally, I played Cheryl in “The Last Thing He Told Me” and appeared in 18 episodes of the web series “101 Ways to Get Rejected,” where I portrayed McKenzie. Interestingly enough, I’m also Bryan Cranston’s daughter.

Isa Briones as Dr. Trinity Santos

In this role, Isa Briones takes on the character of Dr. Trinity Santos, an intern known for her bold demeanor that can sometimes be too much for others to handle. Most likely, audiences will recall Briones from her latest appearance in the inaugural season of the anthology show Goosebumps, where she starred as Margot Stokes. Moreover, Briones was seen as Dahj/Soji/Jana/Sutra/Kore on Paramount+’s Star Trek: Picard.

Gerran Howell as Dennis Whitaker

Gerran Howell portrays Dennis Whitaker, a fourth-year medical student who made history as the first from his family to attend college. Notably, Howell gained recognition for his role as Vladimir Dracula in CBBC’s ‘Young Dracula’, which aired from 2006 to 2012. Additionally, he appeared as Private Perry in the 2019 film ‘1917’, Kid Sampson in Hulu’s miniseries ‘Catch-22’, and Jack in NBC’s short-lived series ‘Emerald City’.

Shabana Azeez as Victoria Javadi

Shabana Azeez takes on the role of Victoria Javadi, a third-year medical student who is only 20 years old and frequently underestimated due to her youth. Notably, her mother is a respected doctor at Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Hospital. In the 2023 film “Birdeater,” Azeez starred as Irene, and she also played Nowa in the same year’s “Run Rabbit Run.

Shawn Hatosy as Dr. Jack Abbott

In the series, I take on the role of Dr. Jack Abbott, a doctor who works the preliminary night shift before the main 15-hour shift. I have a complex relationship with Dr. Robby, both friend and old rival. Many may recognize me as Andrew “Pope” Cody from TNT’s Animal Kingdom, which aired from 2016 to 2022. More recently, I played Deputy Chief Charlie Reid in NBC’s Chicago P.D., Tom Brands in Prime Video’s Unstoppable, and Karel in Netflix’s Flaked. My other notable roles include Sammy Bryant in TNT’s Southland, Agent John Madala in 2009’s Public Enemies, and Ricky Garvey in 2008’s The Lazarus Project.

The Pitt is currently streaming on Max, and new episodes premiere on HBO and Max every Thursday.
