Rebecca Yarros Eases Fans’ Fears About ‘Fourth Wing’ TV Adaptation With Positive Pilot Review

Generally speaking, I’m not usually anxious about book-to-screen adaptations. In fact, I enjoy witnessing fresh perspectives on cherished stories, and often, these adaptations are what initially draw me to the books. However, the upcoming TV series of “The Fourth Wing” has me quite apprehensive due to my deep affection for the books. Yet, fortunately, the author of the series, Rebecca Yarros, has given her feedback on the pilot script, which has alleviated some of my concerns and made me feel more comfortable moving forward.

With the recent release of “Onyx Storm,” the third installment in The Empyrean series, excitement for the upcoming TV show has spiked once more. In a chat with Variety, author Rebecca Yarros not only answered numerous questions about Violet’s latest tale but also shared some intriguing tidbits about the premiere episode of the show, which is set to be streamed on Amazon Prime in the future.

Back then, the concept was quite challenging to grasp, as we were contemplating an adaptation. Now, after meeting Moira (who graciously attended a signing in Vancouver), reading several pilot drafts, and observing her deep reverence for the book, I’m genuinely impressed. Her approach is nothing short of phenomenal, leaving me exhilarated throughout the entire read. Frankly, there were no suggestions to make. The fear of handing over my literary offspring with ‘Here, tell me what matters most,’ is always present, but Moira has proven she understands it perfectly.

In my viewpoint, if the author approves of an adaptation, then I can feel just as positive about it. Thus, Yarros’ bold statement significantly reduces my apprehensions! For a while now, I’ve been keeping doubts and queries at bay regarding how they would bring dragons to life and produce the show, given that the entire book series isn’t structured like Violet stores her anxieties within her mind. However, the author’s open display of faith in the showrunner and this initial script has successfully calmed down the unease I’ve been experiencing.

To make it clear, I’m quite excited for the upcoming show, I’ve been looking forward to it with great anticipation. In fact, I haven’t been this engrossed in a book series since I read The Hunger Games. I feel very attached to Violet, Xaden, Tairn, Andarna and their companions, and I hope the show does them and Yarros’ incredible story the justice they deserve.

Thankfully, along with the author’s confident comments, the show as a whole is in great hands.

As a devoted cinephile, I’m thrilled to share that the series has found its new home with Amazon and the esteemed production house, Outlier Society, led by Michael B. Jordan. Prime Video is renowned for housing some of the most captivating fantasy shows or adaptations, such as Fallout, Rings of Power, and My Lady Jane, to name a few. This suggests that they know how to nurture and bring to life enchanting and beloved properties, making me confident that this series will be in good hands.

Not only that, but the esteemed writer of “Breaking Bad”, Moira Walley-Beckett, serves as the showrunner. This fact alone is intriguing, but Yarros’ flattering remarks about her remind me of a dragon sensing potential in its rider during Threshing.

As an ardent admirer of these books, I’m pleasantly reassured about this TV series! While I had high expectations, there were apprehensions given my profound affection for the original content. After all, transforming something deeply cherished can be tricky, and bringing “Fourth Wing” to life on screen seemed particularly challenging. Yet, it appears that they’re heading in a promising direction that aligns with the creator’s vision. If Rebecca Yarros approves, I will certainly be content as well.
