[The story contains spoilers for the fifth and final season of Insecure.]
Issa Rae says some Insecure fans are still unhappy with how the show ended, even years later.
As a devoted fan, I can’t help but express my admiration for the award-winning show that wrapped up last December after five seasons filled with laughter and relatability. This series, titled “Insecure“, delved into the daily lives of contemporary Black women, often highlighting their awkward yet endearing experiences. Remarkably, Issa Rae, not only played a significant role in crafting this masterpiece but also graced our screens as one of its main characters.
The final scene of the show found Rae’s character, Issa Dee, getting back together with Lawrence Walker (played by Jay Ellis). Yet, not everyone among the fans was thrilled about this resurgence of their romantic involvement, given that their relationship was a rollercoaster throughout the series. It’s worth noting that Lawrence had fathered a child with Condola Hayes (portrayed by Christina Elmore) while he and Issa were contemplating their future together around the same period.
More recently, Rae shared with People magazine that four years on, there’s still a significant amount of frustration among viewers about how the popular series concluded.
The producer of “One of Them Days” stated that they’ve been advised to re-shoot scenes, which seems absurd as viewers weren’t fond of the final decision made by Issa. Frequently, people inquire about a potential season 6 – even on this particular morning [Jan. 30]. Unfortunately, the producer’s Twitter account was hacked earlier today and they can no longer access it. They didn’t use the account often but fell for a phishing scam nonetheless. If you notice unusual tweets attributed to them, understand that it’s not genuine content as they posted on their Instagram Story asking for help regaining control of their Twitter account. Remarkably, someone offered assistance in exchange for three more seasons of “Insecure.
“So I’m like, y’all can’t even take me seriously,” Rae added.
Insecure also starred Yvonne Orji, Natasha Rothwell, Amanda Seales and Kendrick Sampson.
