The original series from Paramount+ titled “School Spirits” is coming back with a brand new season, nearly two years since its suspenseful Season 1 finale. This show is a blend of supernatural and teen drama, revolving around Maddie (portrayed by Peyton List), a high school student who inexplicably finds herself amidst the ghostly inhabitants of Split River High School. Trapped within the school grounds, Maddie can’t remember her death. One instant she was alive, and the next, she was a spirit. Unlike other spirits, she can communicate with her friend, Simon (Kristian Ventura), from anywhere on campus where someone has passed away. Together they embark on a journey to discover who might have taken Maddie’s life and reconstruct her last memories before she becomes forever bound as one of the trapped spirits.
Initially thought to be absent, only Maddie and Simon seem aware of the clear fact. Unfortunately, Maddie’s physical body has not been located. Her blood, however, was discovered in the school boiler room, serving as the sole piece of evidence suggesting her premature demise. As the TV series neared its first season conclusion, audiences became increasingly puzzled about who could have taken Maddie’s life. With each suspect presented, they were later proven innocent. Fortunately, the truth was disclosed in the finale, but it left viewers on a massive suspenseful edge.

How Did ‘School Spirits’ Season 1 End?
At the end of Season 1’s final episode, it’s unveiled that Maddie wasn’t really killed; instead, her spirit was forcefully ejected from her body by Janet (Jess Gabor), during a struggle with Mr. Martin (Josh Zuckerman). This implies that Mr. Martin has been deceiving Maddie since the beginning. Fortunately, Maddie can now recall all events. Thus, the deception about Mr. Martin is exposed, offering Maddie a second chance at life.
In summary, since Simon witnessed Maddie, who appeared possessed by Janet, taking Xavier’s (Spencer MacPherson) truck, he believes he’s gone mad and imagines Maddie as a means to deal with losing her. Consequently, at the end of Season 1, he doubts her existence and abandons her in a critical moment when she needs him. For Maddie to reclaim her body and resurface again, she must find a way to convince Simon that she’s not just a figment of his imagination.
What Is ‘School Spirits’ Season 2 About?
In the second season of “School Spirits”, Maddie embarks on a journey to discover where her body is being held by Janet and find a way to regain control over it. However, she can’t do this alone. Fortunately, Simon now recognizes that Maddie’s spirit isn’t just a figment of his imagination, so he can assist Maddie in locating Janet. Alongside Xavier, Nicole (Kiara Pichardo), and Claire (Rainbow Wedell), Simon will delve into the mystery surrounding why and where Janet disappeared at the end of Season 1 and how they might free Maddie from the spirit realm.
As Simon delves into the enigmas beyond the boundaries of Split River High School, Maddie along with her spectral companions will strive to uncover the truth about Mr. Martin and his research. In their last appearance, viewers witnessed him trapping Wally (Milo Manheim), Rhonda (Sarah Yarkin), and Charley (Nick Pugliese) within the fallout shelter at a crucial moment when they’d uncovered that he’s been monitoring them. Maddie encounters them, which stirs her recollection about how she gained her spectral nature, and they manage to alert her to stay wary of Mr. Martin who ominously watches over her from the upper stairs.
In the upcoming Season 2 of “School Spirits,” airing on Paramount+ on January 30, 2025 (also available on Netflix), it seems Mr. Martin’s actions and intentions are shrouded in mystery. We can expect the new season to delve into what he has been concealing from others, which appears to be far from innocent. His deception about his death and relationship with Janet hint at a deeper plot concerning the trapped spirits. It seems Mr. Martin may hold crucial information about their predicament and potentially be involved in why they can’t move on. The events unfolding at Split River High School only scratch the surface of what is truly happening there.
