LỰU ĐẠN’s FW25 collection, titled boldly and contemplatively as “YOU DON’T BELONG HERE,”, is the latest creation from Vietnamese-American designer Hung La’s label established in 2021. This powerful collection not only showcases one of the designer’s most robust offerings to date, but also delivers a heartfelt message that resonates with people, emphasizing unity and inclusivity.
The Instagram post highlights the relentless labor of a worker, saying “In the subdued light of the store, he labors tirelessly, undeterred by doubt or hesitation. His faith and guilt were shed ages ago, cast aside with waste matter. He moves as if in routine, like an unspoken prayer to something intangible.
This unidentified laborer, initially represented by Errolson Hugh of ACRONYM, is entirely clad in black, donning a latex hoodie, leather gloves, a rubbery apron, and baggy jeans. In other instances, he wears solid black underlayers beneath a silver apron crafted from metal mesh, giving off the impression of a knight’s armor fashioned from blue-collar workwear.

In a second glance, photographer Peter Ash Lee can be seen donning an attire reminiscent of a stylish vigilante. His outfit comprises a unique blend of gaiter and balaclava, combined with a faded denim ensemble consisting of trousers and a jacket. This design brings to mind the “Zoot Suit,” a fashion trend popular among African American, Latino, Asian, and Indigenous communities in mid-20th century America. The style, already quite voluminous, is further accentuated by oversized legs that flow like skirts.
In my gaming world, I come across some striking characters too. One of them sports an androgynous figure enveloped in a radiant orange coat adorned with East Asian symbols. The coat’s design is a blend of a parka and a liner, cinched at the waist like a skirt. On top, they wear a fitted long-sleeve shirt, along with a gaiter-balaclava to complete their stylish upper attire.
In an official Instagram post from the brand, Hung La stated that “YOU DO NOT BELONG HERE” serves as a tribute to immigrants who became outlaws, those often overlooked individuals, and people who felt compelled to take matters into their own hands.
The powerful theme resonates with Willy Chavarria’s Tarantula fashion show, which premiered in Paris during the same week and invited La as a participating model. In his presentation, Chavarria concluded with a moving finale that advocated for empowering marginalized communities.
