Doechii Tells Black Women “Anything Is Possible” While Accepting Best Rap Album Grammy

At the 2025 Grammy Awards, Doechii delivered some potent messages as she received her first award.

Following Doechii’s win for best rap album at the awards for her album “Alligator Bites Never Heal,” Cardi B couldn’t help but break into tears immediately. Taking the stage, the rapper pointed out that only three women have ever won in this category since it was first introduced in 1989, with Lauryn Hill, Cardi B, and now Doechii being among them.

Cardi B cried as soon as it was announced that Doechii had won the best rap album award for “Alligator Bites Never Heal.” When she went on stage to accept the prize, the rapper acknowledged that only three women have ever claimed this title since its inception in 1989, with Lauryn Hill, Cardi B, and now Doechii being part of that exclusive group.

She poured all her emotion and experiences into this mixtape, sharing her life story tearfully. She’s been through a lot, committed to overcoming addiction, and felt assured by faith that she’d be compensated and would witness the best life could offer. And she feels compelled to express gratitude to God.

Doechii expressed gratitude towards her lovely mother for mentoring her, and later showed appreciation to her fans. She referred to herself as the ‘swamp princess’ because she hails from Tampa, Florida. There’s a rich culture in Tampa that often gets overshadowed; when people think of Florida, they usually only consider places like Miami. But don’t overlook Tampa – it’s bursting with talent, and if you look closely, the record labels are there too.

Following expressions of gratitude towards her label, producers, and the hip-hop genre, Doechii paused to offer uplifting messages specifically aimed at Black women nationwide.

As a fellow admirer, I’d like to share her empowering words: “I believe there’s a Black woman out there, many in fact, who are tuned into me at this moment, and I want to assure you, ‘You’ve got this! Anything is within your reach.’ Don’t let anyone impose limiting beliefs on you, suggesting you don’t belong or that you’re too dark-skinned, not intelligent enough, too emotional, or too expressive. You are perfectly you, and that’s all you need to be, right where you are.

Other artists in the running for best rap album were J. Cole with “Might Delete Later”, Common and Pete Rock with “The Auditorium, Vol. 1”, Eminem with “The Death of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce)”, and Future and Metro Boomin with “We Don’t Trust You”.
