The One Thing Adam Levine Did Not Expect About His Return To The Voice After ‘The Stars Aligned’

The long-awaited day for enthusiasts of “The Voice” is here! Adam Levine, the Maroon 5 frontman, will once again take his seat in the Big Red Chairs when Season 27 kicks off on the television schedule on February 3, 2025. This marks his return to coaching a team of singers since Season 16, following his departure from the show after being part of some of “The Voice”‘s most outrageous (and even contentious) incidents. Levine has been vocal about his upcoming return, and he confessed that one unexpected event took him by surprise.

2019 marked my last appearance as a coach on The Voice’s iconic chairs. Since then, Blake Shelton and Kelly Clarkson have bid adieu, seemingly for good, leaving only John Legend, a fellow EGOT winner and newcomer to the show during my final season. It’s intriguing to ponder why I decided to rejoin the panel now. In an interview with E! News, I shared my reasons:

Recently, I found myself feeling that the moment was right. With some spare time on my hands, I took the opportunity for introspection and pursued personal endeavors. Spending quality time with loved ones was also a priority. Once prepared, everything seemed to fall into place, leading me to where I am now.

Due to “The Voice” TV series filming two seasons annually, it’s clear that this popular singing competition consumed a considerable amount of time on the schedules of the coaches, particularly during the early seasons with more live shows. This busy schedule was among the factors leading Blake Shelton to eventually step down from the show.

Stepping away from the spotlight for a spell, it seems as though Adam Levine might be alluding to his 2022 cheating scandal when discussing his family time for introspection. Regardless of the motivations or celestial alignments, one thing is certain: He didn’t rejoin the show out of longing for it. That’s why the overwhelming emotions that greeted him upon his return to set took him aback. In his own words:

“Behind the scenes, I found myself surprised by the torrent of feelings that washed over me when I set foot on set once more.

Quite amusing, I must admit that I didn’t pine for it during my absence. However, upon returning, I found myself growing more sentimental towards it.

Although Adam Levine has been absent from Maroon 5 for six years, he made a comeback in different roles on a few occasions. For instance, the band performed during the Season 20 finale in 2021, which was significant because his fellow coach Kelsea Ballerini (from Season 27) also graced that episode with her performance. Additionally, Levine made an appearance during Blake Shelton’s final episode in 2023.

It’s no wonder that Adam Levine was overwhelmed with emotional recollections upon going back to the set of “The Voice.” Without Blake Shelton there, it must have been peculiar. When discussing his return, he playfully poked fun at Shelton. As for Shelton, he has carried on teasing Levine for quite some time after Levine left, even criticizing Levine’s tattoo artist. On “The Voice”, even the lead singer of Maroon 5 didn’t have nothing but good times. Besides the previously mentioned contentious incidents, such as his disagreement with Christina Aguilera over Tony Lucca singing “99 Problems” and later when he publicly criticized a Team Adam contestant, Adam Levine also endured heartbreak when his former team member, 22-year-old Christina Grimmie, was tragically killed during a fan gathering.

It’s clear that Adam Levine faced some challenges during his first 16 seasons on The Voice, so it’s understandable that his feelings of nostalgia were strong when he returned to the show, even though he didn’t think he’d miss it. The experience turned out to be quite emotional for him.

As a die-hard fan, I’m crossing my fingers for Season 27 to bring more excitement and fewer issues. Don’t miss out when it hits the screens at 8 p.m. Eastern Time on Monday, February 3. If you can’t catch it live, don’t worry! You can stream it the following day with a Peacock subscription.
