Free Stream Alert: The Hated ‘Justice League’ Is Now on Tubi!

Among the most contentious films in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU), the 2017 release of “Justice League” is now available for free streaming, having been added to Tubi’s media collection. In the mid to late 2010s, Warner Bros. and Marvel Studios were fiercely competing to create the finest shared cinematic universe. Although Marvel Studios seemed to be in the lead, DC refused to concede defeat, hastily bringing the Justice League to life on the big screen. The movie featured Henry Cavill as Superman, Ben Affleck as Batman (both reprising their roles from “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice”), Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, and Ezra Miller as The Flash. J.K. Simmons played Commissioner Gordon, while Jeremy Irons portrayed Alfred.

Now you can stream “Justice League” for free on Tubi, as it made its debut on this platform on February 1st. Following Superman’s demise in “Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice”, Bruce Wayne quickly gathered a group of superheroes to safeguard the planet from impending dangers. The initial adversary for the newly formed Justice League was Steppenwolf, a colossal CGI Apokalyptian being intent on acquiring the Mother Boxes, which would eventually serve as weapons for the DCEU’s main antagonist, Darkseid. Released in 2017, “Justice League” drew harsh criticism from both critics and fans. The movie currently holds a score of 39% on Rotten Tomatoes, further perpetuating the divisive reputation of the DC Extended Universe’s superhero films, which had only been challenged by “Wonder Woman” (93%) earlier that year.

Originally, Zack Snyder was overseeing the direction of Justice League, but he had to leave mid-production due to a personal family crisis. Warner Bros. then hired Joss Whedon to complete the film. Unfortunately, their distinct directing approaches created an unsettling mix in the final product that many fans found disappointing. In fact, they were so displeased with Whedon’s take on Justice League, they launched online campaigns and petitions to persuade Warner Bros. to release what is now known as the “Snyder Cut.” Eventually, in 2021, the studio complied with their demands.

Will the Justice League Appear in James Gunn’s New DC Universe?

In simpler terms, the Justice League is undoubtedly the most famous superhero group within the stories of DC Comics. Over time, this team has had numerous members, ranging from the more somber characters like Dr. Fate and Martian Manhunter, to the quirky Plastic Man and the immature Shazam! (in both personality and literal sense). With James Gunn and Peter Safran leading a significant reboot of the DC Universe, fans are eager to witness how Gunn will portray the Justice League.

It’s highly probable that the Justice League, due to their widespread fame, will make an appearance in the DC Universe’s upcoming phases. However, Gunn seems to be taking lessons from the past errors of the DCEU, which means we might have to wait for several more movies and series before the new incarnation of the Justice League graces our screens.

In essence, the Justice League initially appeared on screen within Peacemaker Season 1, but later, Gunn has decided to alter this occurrence, stating that “their appearance at the end is straightforward, except for the presence of that specific team [former DCEU’s Justice League]. They haven’t come into being yet.” The first movie in the DCU, Superman, is set to be released in theaters on July 11, 2025.
