For quite some time, MIKE has been a prominent figure in the vast New York City hip-hop scene, consistently delivering impressive long-form studio albums and expanding his renowned collection of work. Originally known as an artist only recognized within underground circles, MIKE has spent the last few years emerging from the shadows of the city’s rap community and moving into the brighter mainstream limelight. Following the release of the sharp Tony Seltzer-produced “Pinball” in March 2024, MIKE has now unveiled a powerful studio album titled “Showbiz!”, which sees the rapper contemplating his journey.
Showbiz!” – Comprising 24 tracks and lasting a manageable 47 minutes, this release finds MIKE delving deep into personal introspection and societal queries. As always, he is thoughtfully self-examining, swiftly moving through each track (typically under two minutes long) to thoroughly examine a wide range of concerns weighing on his mind.
“For every person, I know death is inevitable, yet I still play coy with her. On one hand, I’m conversing with the reflection that’s somewhat hazy, and when I’ve sobered up, my speech becomes clearer. On another track titled ‘Artist Of The Century,’ he expresses sorrow over the struggles fame has brought him; he raps, ‘I schemed for riches, but what I truly needed was divine guidance, my thoughts filled with profanity, gaze fixed on the multitudes.’
The song titled “Man in the Mirror” served as the last pre-release single, joining earlier releases such as “Bear Trap,” which opened the list, “You’re The Only One Watching” at position twelve, and “Pieces Of A Dream” at number sixteen on the tracklist. You can view the complete list below.
