Janelle Monae Says “F*** You Nelly” for Singer’s Trump Inauguration Performance: “You Sold Out”

Janelle Monae condemned Nelly on Sunday for the singer’s Trump inauguration performance.

At a Grammy afterparty, Monae was captured on video by TMZ, singing a rendition of Nelly’s “Hot in Herre” as she delivered her remarks.

This version maintains the original meaning while using simpler and more natural language to make it easier for readers to understand.

Monae expresses her disappointment in Nelly in a bleeped video. She explains, ‘I admired Nelly once, but then he performed for Donald Trump.’ She adds, ‘Nelly, it seems you’ve sold out. I used to find you admirable, but now you appear to be making poor choices.’

According to TMZ, the spontaneous performance was included in a mix of tunes that Monae and Anderson .Paak, who jointly own the West Hollywood bar, sang at the venue during the party.

Nelly encountered criticism following his appearance at Trump’s inaugural ball last month, but he countered by asserting that his decision wasn’t politically motivated. “I’m not here to influence anyone’s vote,” he explained. “This isn’t about politics. The political debate, for me, is done and dusted. He won, he’s the president.

Monae continued with her disparaging remarks of the singer, tho many of her words aren’t totally clear on the video. She can be heard saying “F—k you [N word]. Get a new attitude,” as well as “I care about women, I care about hispanics.”

On Sunday evening, Monae graced the Grammy stage and performed Michael Jackson’s “Don’t Stop ’til You Get Enough” as a tribute to Quincy Jones. Partway through the performance, she tossed her jacket into the audience, which Taylor Swift later retrieved. For the remainder of the evening, Swift sported the black blazer over her red dress.
