NCIS: Torres and Knight’s Wild Undercover Op Brings Them Closer to Robin

Warning: SPOILERS for the NCIS episode “For Better or Worse” are ahead!

During the midseason finale of NCIS Season 22 (available for streaming with Paramount+), it emerged that Nick Torres had a hidden girlfriend. It turned out to be Robin Knight, Jessica Knight’s sister, as revealed in the show’s first episode scheduled for 2025 television broadcasts. Initially upset about Torres dating her sister, especially since she was the last one to know, Jessica appeared to accept their relationship by the end of “Baker’s Man.” However, it seemed that peace didn’t last long, but tonight’s NCIS episode brings some positive news: during a wild undercover operation, Jessica genuinely warmed up to Torres and his girlfriend.

Nick Torres and Jessica Knight Got Fake-Married

This week’s case centered on the murder of a notorious criminal, Vincent Kelso, who was well-known to Nick Torres due to a covert operation led by NCIS Director Leon Vance. In this instance, Torres found himself infiltrating a Baltimore gang that Vincent belonged to, which was producing fake military IDs for theft from Navy bases and illegal resale on the black market. While Roman Sabchek appeared to be in charge of the gang, he was actually taking orders from an unidentified figure known as ‘Wilk,’ which is Polish for ‘wolf.’

The newly appointed Deputy Director in NCIS has raised my suspicions, as actor Rocky Carroll hinted at the strategies Vance might employ to address similar thoughts.

The plot took an unanticipated twist when Jessica planned to catch up with Torres for some updates before his undercover mission, but instead found herself confronting her partner about his secret relationship with Robin (details to follow). Unfortunately, they were seen by Roman’s suspicious son during this encounter. To preserve their cover, Jessica feigned an engagement with Nick. Once the team uncovered Kelso as a Baltimore PD informant and noticed that Roman was using outdated methods like a pager and PalmPilot to communicate with Wilk, they decided to orchestrate a fake wedding between Torres and Jessica. This sham ceremony served two purposes: it kept Roman’s son distracted while McGee secretly copied the device, pretending to be a photographer at the event.

In summary: Roman met a tragic end at his wedding due to poisoning, while McGee successfully replicated the PalmPilot. This discovery revealed that Wilk, who had been flirting with Torres at their hangout bar, was actually a woman named Lana. Lana was arrested before she could flee, causing their heist plan to fail. The outcome was mostly positive, except for Vance, who was frustrated about the high cost of the fake wedding.

Jessica Came To Terms With Torres And Robin’s Relationship

Despite her affection for her sister Robin, it’s evident from Jessica Knight’s portrayal on NCIS that she disapproves of Robin’s past romantic entanglements. When she discovered that Torres had a small drawer assigned for Robin at his home, Jessica felt apprehensive given Robin’s history of multiple engagements and the likelihood of another relationship breakdown. However, this time, it wasn’t just her sister’s feelings she was worried about; she also cared deeply about Torres and didn’t want either of them to be left heartbroken if things didn’t work out between them.

In the TV show “For Better or Worse,” Jessica had reservations about Robin’s relationship with Torres, which Robin found difficult to handle. The situation escalated further when Robin was involved in planning their sham wedding. Nick repeatedly tried to reassure Jessica that there was no need for concern. Eventually, as the story progressed, Jessica overcame her doubts and gave a toast at the wedding reception, subtly acknowledging that she had been mistaken about their relationship. Interestingly, Jessica’s apprehensions stemmed from a fear of losing both Robin and Torres if they were to part ways, since she didn’t want to lose either one of them.

After overcoming this obstacle, I’m eager to believe that Torres and Robin’s bond will grow even more profound. Fingers crossed we’ll witness their development as a well-rounded pair in NCIS Season 22, given the complexity of events in “For Better or Worse” didn’t allow for it earlier. At minimum, if they part ways, I hope it won’t be portrayed off-screen.
