Fans Heartbroken as Beloved Doctor Who Character Won’t Return for New Season!

This year, you can watch the newest season of “Doctor Who” on Disney+. However, it’s sad to note that one character, who was recently with The Doctor, won’t be part of this journey. Fans are excited about Ruby Sunday coming back, even with a new companion, but they might be disappointed to find out their recent ally in the TARDIS is not joining this adventure.

I’m really looking forward to Millie Gibson and Varada Sethu reappearing in Doctor Who alongside Ncuti Gatwa’s Doctor, but Radio Times reports that one popular character might be absent from future team-ups. Although I understand the reasoning behind this decision, it doesn’t lessen my disappointment.

Doctor Who Will Not Bring Back Anita From “Joy To The World” In The New Season

In “Joy To The World,” an engaging side story unfolded for The Doctor. He found himself spending a whole year at a hotel to ensure the timeline remained stable and obtain the code to deactivate a case crafted by the malevolent organization Villengard, which is known from “Doctor Who.” During his employment, he developed a friendship with Anita, the manager, played by Steph de Whalley. Over the ensuing year, their bond grew stronger.

It appears for the first time in a while that The Doctor found a true companion, but regrettably, we won’t get to see her again in the near future. Steven Moffat clarified to Radio Times that Anita was a unique character and she wasn’t included in any episodes planned for the upcoming season.

It was quite disappointing, given my high expectations, that this aspect turned out to be the low point in the holiday special. Perhaps I’ll invent a backstory where they continue their friendship through letter writing as he embarks on new journeys.

Steven Moffat Explained Why Anita Was Created, Which Makes Sense

It could be puzzling why Anita received such extensive focus in “Joy To The World” episode of Doctor Who, given that the series didn’t seem to have lasting intentions for her character. However, as a previous showrunner of the program, Steven Moffat provided an explanation, and it appears that the reason was financial: the character was likely included due to budgetary considerations.

As a seasoned Doctor Who aficionado, I can confidently assert that the greatness in Doctor Who, a claim you can trust, is often born out of necessity – specifically, budget cuts. Take our spaceship, for instance, which bears an uncanny resemblance to a telephone booth. You guessed it, budget cut! Similarly, Anita, our character who found herself in a rather peculiar predicament, was essentially a cost-effective solution; we simply couldn’t splurge on sending Ncuti Gatwa globetrotting for another hotel stay.

I apologize to those who thought Anita was actually Mrs. Flood in disguise. In reality, the character was introduced solely because the plot required The Doctor to stay at a specific hotel, and it seems adding this character made the story more engaging. Regrettably, they didn’t anticipate how much fans would embrace the character; had they known, they might have found a way to include her in the latest season.

Simultaneously, it seems logical that “Doctor Who” wouldn’t spend any additional funds by having The Doctor traverse the globe in pursuit of another enigmatic hotel door leading to the Time Hotel. If Steven Moffat hadn’t intervened halfway through and started anew on the special episode, he might have brainstormed more solutions to address this issue. However, I’m content with the outcome, even though we may never see more of Anita again.

The episode ‘Joy To The World’ isn’t among my favorite ‘Doctor Who’ episodes, but it’s a fun holiday special. To be honest, knowing that we might not have more adventures or scenes with the Doctor and his festive companions slightly diminishes the episode for me in retrospect. However, I’m likely to watch it again next Christmas.

Regardless of some disappointing updates, I am still eager for Season 2 of the Doctor Who‘s latest chapter on Disney+. I’m on tenterhooks to watch The Doctor engage in combat with the divine council of gods in the upcoming season and uncover the true identity of the one orchestrating this grand journey.
