Monster Hunter Wilds is rapidly approaching its release on February 28th, and excitement among players continues to build, particularly following the latest Monster Hunter Showcase which unveiled plenty of fresh insights for enthusiastic fans.
In Monster Hunter Wilds, not only does it bring a new biome called the Iceshard Cliffs, but it also welcomes back two fan-favorite monsters from the fourth generation of hunters: the agile Temnoceran Nerscylla and the mighty Elder Dragon Gore Magala.
As an old-school gamer, I instantly recognized those two monsters, my heart racing with excitement mixed with the chilling familiarity of dread.
Back in the days of Monster Hunter 4 on the Nintendo 3DS, I fell in love with this spider-like beast called Nerscylla. With its four legs and razor-sharp claws, it could weave lethal webs faster than you can say “watch out!” My first hunt against it was a nightmare I’ll never forget – getting stung by its paralyzing venom, dozing off, waking up to find myself being dismembered by those massive claws. It’s an experience that’s etched in my gaming memory, and I can only imagine newcomers will have the same chilling encounter when it makes a comeback after a 12-year hiatus from the series.
As I watched the newest game trailer, my heart pounded as Nerscylla stalked across the icy heights of the Iceshard Cliffs, its ominous presence barely matched by the looming figure of Hirabami, a colossal leviathan that can glide and wields a deadly tail. But the shocks didn’t end there – the final scenes revealed that Gore Magala is making a comeback!

Players who have experienced Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak may recognize this formidable Elder Dragon, much like Nerscylla, Gore Magala was initially introduced in Monster Hunter 4 and is renowned as one of the franchise’s most memorable creatures. With its wing-like shadows and six limbs, it is a formidable adversary, capable of causing the Frenzy Virus – a status that weakens resistances and brings about numerous complications. Those affected will also notice the surroundings becoming ominously shaded, intensifying the tension during the hunt.

Gore Magala’s comeback hints at a chance we might see its advanced version. As Magalas shed their skin, it’s likely that the mature Shagaru Magala could be hiding close by – a formidable adversary that most hunters aren’t equipped to tackle.
In Monster Hunter Wilds, you can expect to encounter several recurring monsters, such as:
1. The Gypceros, a large wyvern with a lamp-shaped crest that has the ability to blind its enemies.
2. Congalala, a notorious primate infamous for its flatulence.
Additionally, the popular Rathian and Rathalos will make their appearance again. It’s worth noting that these creatures are staples in Monster Hunter games, so while they may seem absent at times, they never truly leave a Monster Hunter title.
The action-packed Monster Hunter World: Rise will be available starting February 28th on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. Notably, its second open beta test is swiftly approaching as well!
