Marvel Rivals’ Triple Support Meta Is Ruining the Game, Players Say

Approximately two months after its launch, Marvel Rivals boasts an enormous player community made up of ardent Marvel enthusiasts and dedicated competitors. It’s undeniably become a gaming sensation, capturing the same audience and excitement that Blizzard’s Overwatch did during its initial phase.

As a devoted enthusiast, I’m constantly tinkering with different team configurations since the game is still fresh and evolving. Interestingly enough, even in the Quick Play mode, you’ll often encounter players who swiftly lock in all five Duelists without a second thought.

In Ranked Games, the system now allows for hero bans, and players, especially those at Diamond level and above, are consistently coming up with innovative strategies to alter the game’s dynamics. One of these innovations is the realization that a three-support composition can surprisingly work effectively in certain situations.

Initially, the excitement of this strategy was clear during the initial stages, but as time went on, it turned out to be less enjoyable in higher skill levels. Ex-Overwatch pro Seagull, now an enthusiast of Marvel Rivals, shared on YouTube his observations about a fresh problem with the game’s current state.

He expressed that the “triple support” meta has made Marvel Rivals feel more like a tedious process or an enduring wait, referring to it as a “patient’s game.

In this scenario, envision encountering an adversary squad comprising Cloak & Dagger, Rocket Raccoon, and Luna Snow. You’re all set to dish out heavy damage with your powerful ultimate ability. However, Luna is now performing a dance in the heat of battle, causing all players to become virtually invincible. Nobody can be defeated, and if they are, Rocket’s revival device instantly restores them to life. This leads to an aggravating delay of 10 to 30 seconds as players exhaust their ultimate resources and eventually re-enter the fray again.

It’s not hard to guess that this situation has sparked numerous problems, with numerous players airing their grievances on the Marvel Rivals subreddit.

In higher skill levels where bans are an option, many players prefer to ban Luna Snow and Cloak & Dagger for a more engaging gameplay experience. After all, who wouldn’t want to avoid the recurring phrases like “I am ready to put on a show!” and “Us against the world!” that can get quite tiresome after every 10 minutes?

In this situation, it can lead to mutual annoyance: as the opposing team opts for a three-support setup, it becomes highly likely that your team will follow suit.

As a gamer, I know for a fact that there are characters who can take down others, but it’s not always a given victory. For instance, Cloak & Dagger and Luna Snow have powerful defensive abilities, but they can be countered by a perfectly timed ultimate move from Magneto or Moon Knight. However, the final outcome isn’t always in my favor, even with the best timing.

As a gamer, I found it peculiar that the triple healer setup wasn’t performing exceptionally well, given what the Rivals Tracker site reveals – its win rate doesn’t stack up against the more conventional 2-2-2 configuration.

Players of Overwatch have encountered a recurring challenge, particularly during the challenging ‘GOATS’ meta which had a detrimental effect on the game in its later stages. Similarly, Marvel Rivals, despite being an entirely distinct game, has been sparking conversations that are conducive to toxicity within its community due to this very issue.

If the developers fail to address the issue with the Triple Support meta, there might be an increase in player requests for a Role Queue system. In the end, even though they initially resisted, NetEase may eventually adopt this demand.
