NEIGHBORHOOD Unveils SS25 Collection Featuring Keffiyeh-Inspired Pieces

The neighborhood has recently showcased its Spring/Summer 2025 collection, which encompasses a variety of worn-in essentials and strategic styles, all revolving around a prominent cultural symbol as the focal point.

Shinsuke Takizawa’s newest line maintains the brand’s distinctive style using military-inspired shapes such as a shirt-jacket with patch pockets, cargo trousers, an olive green parka, and leather flight jackets. Basic wardrobe items like jeans, sweaters, and knitwear like crewnecks and cardigans show signs of aging with faded spots, frayed edges, worn-out holes, and mismatched stitching patterns.

This season, the Japanese label prefers a simple aesthetic, featuring muted NH94 abbreviations, “Durable Work Products” slogans, and patches reminiscent of industrial work uniforms. However, one hoodie, hand-drawn, catches the eye with its contrasting panels and diverse images including a college emblem, a Playboy-like bunny, and the title of the Nirvana song “Smells Like Teen Spirit.

Drawing inspiration from the time-honored Middle Eastern scarves known as keffiyehs, this collection introduces an array of patterned jackets, accessories, and home goods. Historically meaningful to the Palestinian cause, the distinctive woven pattern serves as a powerful statement from the brand, frequently incorporating pacifist and countercultural symbols within its graphics. Jackets with hoods, scarves, and necklaces take cues from this traditional garment, subtly integrating a peace symbol into their design.
