The renowned ballerina Misty Copeland, known for her work at the American Ballet Theatre, has chosen Range Media Partners to represent her across all sectors.
In 2000, Copeland became part of the New York City ballet troupe and ascended to the position of principal dancer in 2015 – a groundbreaking achievement as the first African-American woman to hold this title in ABT’s 75-year history. Recently, Copeland has signed with Range Media Partners as she moves forward in her career transition from the ballet stage to film acting.
2015 saw the birth of my production company, Life in Motion Productions, alongside two-time Emmy winner Leyla Fayyaz. Our shared vision is to bring fresh, diverse narratives and amplify the voices of artists from underrepresented communities across both established and emerging media platforms. As a gamer, I’m all about leveling up representation!
In their inaugural production titled “Flower,” director Lauren Finerman, with screenplay by Fayyaz, focuses on Rose, portrayed by Copeland. This character grapples with the burden of establishing a home, caring for her mother afflicted with dementia, and instructing aspiring ballerinas in her Oakland community amidst its gentrification process. This 28-minute short film premiered at the Tribeca Festival and was recognized with a nomination for an NAACP Award.
Apart from being a renowned dancer, Copeland is also an acclaimed author of several books such as “Life in Motion”, “Ballerina Body”, “Black Ballerinas”, “The Wind at My Back”, and children’s books like “Bunheads” and “Firebird”. She established the Misty Copeland Foundation with a mission to promote diversity, fairness, and inclusion within the dance community, particularly in ballet.
I’m thrilled to share that I’ve been bestowed with a host of prestigious awards, including the Spingarn Medal by the NAACP, the Heisman Trophy Humanitarian Award, a spot on Time’s 100 Most Influential People list, Glamour’s Women of the Year award, the Black Girls Rock! Awards, The Grio Awards’ Trailblazer Icon Award, and the African American Film Critics Association’s Innovator Award. It’s an honor to be recognized in such a way by these esteemed organizations.
She continues to be represented by Innovative Artists and Del Shaw Moonves.
