Will Chicago Fire’s Severide And Kidd Start A Family In Season 13? I’ve Changed My Mind After The One Chicago Crossover Event

The three-part “One Chicago” crossover has passed, and fans might not anticipate another occurrence until the second half of the 2025 television season at the absolute latest. Yet, this doesn’t rule out any repercussions, as Andrea Newman, showrunner for Chicago Fire, described them as “consequences” or “ramifications.” After reflecting on the crossover’s impact on Stella Kidd’s storyline, I am now uncertain if Stella and Severide will choose to have a family before the conclusion of Season 13.

Despite the showrunner’s earlier statements about Stellaride’s family journey, I must admit that I struggled to picture Chicago Fire with its main couple raising a baby. Given the complications in Dawson and Casey’s pregnancy during their days on the show, and considering Stella’s important role as Truck lieutenant, it seemed like an unexpected turn of events. (You can re-live the Dawsey seasons by subscribing to Peacock now.)

Absolutely, there are alternatives for Stellaride to become parents without Stella experiencing pregnancy directly, as Dawsey has previously fostered a child. Cruz’s arrival through adoption demonstrates that this route is commendable, although he didn’t make it into the crossover because of some CFD rules violations. Additionally, Mouch becoming lieutenant means Kidd could take leave without Fire needing to bring in a new officer right away. However, I must admit that I still harbor doubts.

Stella’s experience in the crossover led me to contemplate that she might assess her life and determine that it’s time to expand her family. This thought came to me before I even caught a glimpse of the preview for the upcoming episode, which is set to air during Fire’s 9 p.m. ET slot on NBC Wednesdays!

Considering the fact that both prospective parents are in serious danger, it would typically lead me to believe that they shouldn’t have children, unless one of them changes to a safer occupation. However, I don’t wish to see either character depart from the action. Moreover, Andrea Newman’s remarks resonated more profoundly after observing Stella’s response when Severide agreed that they needed a break from the Fire Department.

Initially, the comments appeared to have no connection with a possible Stellaride baby, but looking back now, I find them quite significant in another perspective. Interestingly, one comment didn’t even mention Severide, and it followed my remark suggesting that Archer from Chicago Med and Chief Pascal could form an intriguing pair. Andrea Newman stated:

It’s exciting to see these pairings, and I find it especially thrilling that Voight and Pascal are involved, as they’re both strong-willed leaders, and their interactions seem like sparks flying everywhere. It’s also entertaining to observe the three boss figures, Archer included, working together. The dynamic between Ruzek and Kidd, two powerful leaders who are accustomed to getting their way, collaborating is an interesting spectacle as well.

It was Newman talking about Ruzek and Kidd from Chicago P.D., being trapped in a subway that sparked my thoughts, primarily because of my favorite moment from the Burzek crossover. This wasn’t their heartwarming reunion at the end of the three-part series, but rather the instance when concerned Burgess questioned her fiancé if he wanted her to fetch their daughter so he could communicate with her via radio. Ruzek reassured Burgess that it wasn’t necessary, but it made me realize how the main couple in Chicago P.D. are parents. Couldn’t the primary pair from Firehouse also be parents?

Andrea Newman additionally discussed Stellaride, hinting at the upcoming consequences due to the crossover. She shared with me that:

Each episode influences the others significantly, yet the crossover seems to have an extraordinary effect on all characters. Furthermore, the connections among Severide, Kidd, Ruzek, Burgess, Mouch, and Trudy are scrutinized deeply in this installment, as we delve into these three relationships in particular. This episode presents a unique set of challenges for the characters that we found engaging to explore. From a character development perspective, it was an enjoyable experience for us to work on.

Given Mouch and Trudy’s brush with death in the finale, it was almost certain that they’d face consequences. Meanwhile, Burzek have to navigate wedding planning amidst the complications brought by Disco Bob’s resurface. If not revisiting the family-planning idea suggested by Severide weeks ago, what repercussions might Stellaride encounter?

This week’s preview suggests that my theory might be correct, since it hints at Stella being prepared to make a significant move with her spouse, which was something she had hesitated about before. Here’s a glance:

It seems like a Stellaride baby might be in the making on “Chicago Fire”. Given the storyline, it appears to be an opportune time for them to consider starting a family. The summer break is not far off, so if they were to become pregnant, the revelation could serve as a significant plot twist towards the end of the season or even a shocking finale cliffhanger. The early stages of pregnancy could then unfold during the summer hiatus off-screen.

Although it’s not suggested that fans should begin selecting baby names, after reconsidering what the producer of “Chicago Fire” shared with TopMob and following the end of the crossover, I now lean towards the idea unfolding more quickly rather than later. Tune in to NBC every Wednesday at 9 p.m. ET for new episodes of “Fire,” right in the heart of the popular One Chicago block!
