Apple TV Plus has revealed plans to produce a fresh music competition series in Seoul, titled “KPOPPED“. This announcement was made on Wednesday.
Featuring Grammy-winning artist Megan Thee Stallion alongside K-Pop sensation Psy, the eight-episode musical competition show is spearheaded by executive producers Lionel Richie and Miky Lee of CJ ENM. Collaborating on this project are Korean entertainment giant CJ ENM and production company Eureka Productions to bring it to life.
In both versions, the information provided remains accurate and easy to understand. The second version is slightly more conversational in tone while still maintaining a formal structure.
Based on the show’s description: “In every episode, famous figures from the West recreate one of their most popular songs by teaming up with renowned K-Pop stars. They put on breathtaking performance battles, and a live audience in Seoul decides which K-Pop version of the song is the best.
As a gamer, I’m thrilled to be part of this exciting project, where gaming world meets music and entertainment! Moira Ross, Megan Thee Stallion, and Greg Foster, along with Harry H.K. Shin and Jake Hong, are on board as executive producers, while Kiwoong Kim is producing for CJ ENM. Chris Culvenor, Paul Franklin, Wes Dening, and David Tibballs will also serve as executive producers for Eureka Productions, with Bruce Eskowitz. I can’t wait to see this collaboration unfold!
Apple TV has recently produced its second series focusing on K-Pop within the past year. Last August, they debuted a docuseries titled “K-Pop Idols“. This eight-part series chronicled the journeys of three different K-Pop acts: Blackswan, boy group Cravity, and soloist Jessi.
The documentary didn’t mince words about the challenges of working under circumstances such as internal conflicts among team members and being plunged into an unfamiliar setting. Prior to its release, Gabi from Blackswan shared this with THR. At the time, she was only 21 years old and Sriya, her fellow group member, were already being filmed for the documentary as trainees in the series, striving to secure a spot in Blackswan.
Later on, she remarked: “The purpose of this documentary is to reveal that even in stardom, things aren’t flawless. As [group member Fatou] put it, we are just ordinary people, despite the public personas we project onto the screen.
A release date for KPOPPED has yet to be confirmed.
