During the filming of “Melrose Place,” Kristin Davis was advised by a production team member not to put on any extra pounds.
In a recent feature article for People magazine, the actress reflected on her time starring as Brooke Armstrong in a popular soap opera. Despite cherished memories of her fellow actors, she acknowledged an overall challenging atmosphere on the set due to what she described as “a pervasive issue concerning weight.
Observing that “each individual was stunningly attractive and extraordinarily slim,” Davis felt compelled to make a change, so she enlisted the help of a running coach and regularly attended consecutive 90-minute spinning sessions.
She expressed that she felt exasperated as she attempted to accomplish something. Naturally, she’s unsure if she ate during that time, as she can’t recall that detail.
In an interview, the former star of ‘Sex and the City’ shared her experience of working incredibly hard to the point where she once lost consciousness in a parking lot and occasionally struggled to recall her own name.
Even though all that Davis was accomplishing, the actress found out from her co-star Thomas Calabro on “Melrose Place” that the producers were still harboring worries about her weight.
In my gaming world, as I sat down with Kristin, he beamed and exclaimed, “Kristin! It’s fantastic to have you here. Let me tell you something, I think you’re absolutely stunning!” And I, taken aback, replied, “Oh, thank you so much. But what do you mean exactly?” To which he added, “Ah, I see the producers are under a lot of pressure, but let me tell you, it’s incredible to have a woman with curves in our group.
Davis admitted being puzzled, to which Calabro responded, “I believe they should not burden you excessively.” Davis replied, “Huh?” in confusion.
In this situation, the actress from “And Just Like That” chose to address the producers about some concerns she had heard regarding her weight. She asked directly, “‘Have I heard correctly that you’re worried about my weight? Did someone make a comment? Did executive producer Mr. [Aaron] Spelling say something?'” According to David, this is what transpired in their conversation. The producers responded by saying they thought she looked beautiful, to which the actress replied, “‘Well, and what of it?'” The producer then told her, “‘Just try not to gain any weight.’
Davis stated that such interactions and conduct on the set were considered “standard for quite some time.” He also mentioned, “Tensions ran high. If one possessed a larger hip structure, it presented certain challenges.
The television series titled “Melrose Place,” airing from 1992-99, primarily revolved around a circle of companions residing at Melrose Place in sunny California.
