30-Year Feud Between Ted Danson and Kelsey Grammer Revealed: The Shocking Truth!

Prior to playing Dr. Frasier Crane on the series “Frasier” for eleven seasons, Kelsey Grammer made a significant impact as the character for eight seasons on “Cheers”. Both shows, along with the “Frasier” revival, can be streamed with a Paramount+ subscription. Notably, “Cheers” was one of the most successful TV shows during its time and remains among the best sitcoms ever made. However, the harmonious vibe on set wasn’t always present, as Grammer had an ongoing feud with his “Cheers” co-star Ted Danson that lasted for 30 years, a conflict directly related to the show itself.

Previously, Grammer and Danson hadn’t spoken in three decades because of a disagreement, but during an interview with The New York Post, I, Grammer, clarified that it wasn’t really an argument. Instead, Danson became irritated with my behavior on the set, as I recall.

The situation escalated unnecessarily. In reality, there wasn’t any disagreement. It happened during a period when I was grappling with significant self-doubt and negative feelings about myself. To be truthful, I was heavily into alcohol at the time. Ted just dropped by and mentioned that he felt upset because I didn’t always show up prepared. I acknowledged his sentiment, saying “I respect that,” and that was essentially the end of it.

Throughout the entire run of “Cheers”, Ted Danson played the lead role as Sam Malone, a former baseball player who owned the bar bearing the same name in Boston, Massachusetts. Starting in Seasons 3 and 4, Frasier Crane, a psychiatrist, was a recurring character. Kelsey Grammer joined the main cast in Season 5, and remained there until the show ended in 1993. During this time, Grammer and Danson worked closely together, but Grammer’s drinking escalated to a point that it interfered with the filming of “Cheers” on a weekly basis. Eventually, Grammer admitted that his drinking was causing issues.

Perhaps Ted distanced himself from a potentially stronger bond of friendship. It could be that he needed self-preservation. To be honest, I’m not sure. But, I responded, ‘Thank you.’ And we were content with that decision.

After the final episode of Cheers, Ted Danson reappeared as Sam Malone in an episode of Frasier back in 1995. However, it wasn’t until last October that they had a genuine reunion. During this meeting, Danson expressed regret for missing out on the past 30 years with Kelsey Grammer and apologized for any issues he may have caused with his co-star. He also reminisced about a time when he got angry at him. Grammer accepted Danson’s sentiments gracefully and fondly remembered an instance when another actor from Cheers approached him on his 40th birthday, stating that he was now “worthy of having a conversation.

It’s nice to know that Kelsey Grammer and Ted Danson have improved their relationship recently. Unfortunately, since the Frasier reboot was cancelled after just two seasons, it seems unlikely that Sam and Frasier will reunite on our television screens unless CBS Studios manages to find the show another broadcast platform.
