Victoria Beckham’s Contemporary Picks Are on View at Her London Boutique

Fashion designer, businesswoman, and art enthusiast Victoria Beckham is collaborating with Sotheby’s to exhibit an assortment of modern art pieces at her store in Mayfair, London prior to their auction in London and New York.

The upcoming exhibition is a continuation of Beckham’s 2018 collaboration with the auction house, which revolved around old masters’ portraits. However, for this event, the partnership has moved towards showcasing artists from contemporary art scene that Beckham admires – such as Yoshitomo Nara, George Condo, Keith Haring, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Joan Mitchell, Gerhard Richter, Yves Klein and Richard Prince. The exhibition will take place across a three-story Georgian townhouse.

The focus of this collection lies in pieces that effectively employ color, texture, and size. Notable standouts are “Cosmic Eyes (in the Milky Lake)” by Nara, known for its adorable and sly depiction; “Red Joy,” an energetic creation by Basquiat; and Prince’s unnamed 2020 work from his High Times series, where Beckham serves as inspiration.

As I stepped into Elton John’s abode in sunny Nice, France, something truly mesmerizing caught my eye – a Julian Schnabel masterpiece. It was love at first sight, and before I knew it, I found myself becoming a collector, making my very first purchase shortly after. That piece, hailing from Schnabel’s Sonanbul series, would later serve as the muse for my Fall 2024 collection, guiding me in selecting the perfect color palette.

David and I view collecting not merely as an investment or acquisition of aesthetically pleasing items,” she explained in her statement. “It’s about discovering objects that truly bring us happiness. As I learn more about art history and grow as a collector, I find myself increasingly intrigued by this fascinating pursuit.

The works are now on view at the Victoria Beckham store in London through February 10, 2025.
