Buffy has entered the chat.
On Thursday, Sarah Michelle Gellar spoke about the rumored Buffy the Vampire Slayer revival being developed by Hulu in a social media post. Reports suggest that the revival will feature Gellar in a role, but the storyline would focus on a new, younger vampire slayer character.
Hey there! Just wanted to catch up since there’s been some buzz lately, but I guess I’ve been a bit quiet myself.” -Gellar
She proceeded to recount the origins of the reboot’s inception: “Three years back, I received a call from my cherished friend and guide, Gail Berman. She expressed her desire for me to converse with Chloé Zhao about her perspective on a potential revival of Buffy. I was astonished to learn that Chloé had even heard of me, but, as usual, I told Gail that I couldn’t envision the show returning. We had always shared this view, but this time, I sensed something distinct in her tone. In the end, I consented to meet (primarily to encounter Chloé) and our brief coffee conversation transformed into a lengthy exploration. We exchanged laughter, tears, but mostly we engaged in heartfelt discussions about the profound impact that this series has had on us.
In the meeting, the actress initially expressed disagreement with whatever was discussed. But later, through further discussions and brainstorming with her team, including writers Nora and Lilla Zuckman, she found a concept that resonated with her.
She expressed that fans’ wishes to revisit Buffy and her world have always been heard, but bringing it back was not feasible unless she was certain it could be done well. This has been a lengthy process and it’s still ongoing. However, rest assured, we will only create this series if we can do it justice. And I want you to know that we are making progress towards achieving that.
In conclusion, my beloved fellow Buffy enthusiasts, I am incredibly fortunate to embark on this adventure alongside these extraordinary actresses who share the same passion for Buffy as I do – and as you do too! A big thank you to all the fans who continuously supported us in bringing this back. This is dedicated to you all.
The popular TV series “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” aired from 1997 to 2003. Since then, efforts have been made to revive the horror show with Gellar, but in December she expressed that she is “extremely proud of the show we produced, and it doesn’t require any more remaking.
The revival will be “the next chapter in the Buffyverse” and is set to have Chloé Zhao direct.
