In the Netflix follow-up film “Happy Gilmore 2,” the main character, previously portrayed by Adam Sandler, now has a fresh group of people offering assistance.
Actress Kym Whitley has become a part of director Kyle Newacheck’s upcoming comedy movie, which is scheduled to debut on a streaming platform this year. Filming for the project concluded in December, with Adam Sandler returning to play his iconic character from Universal’s 1996 film “Happy Gilmore,” the lead role he originally portrayed.
Whitley is all set to portray Bessie, a friend of Happy Gilmore’s from the support group, in the upcoming film. Some familiar faces from the original cast include Christopher McDonald, Julie Bowen, and Ben Stiller. Newcomers joining the team are Bad Bunny, Margaret Qualley, and Travis Kelce. Additionally, Dennis Dugan, who directed the initial Happy Gilmore and is now executive producing the sequel, will be reprising his role from the first movie.
The crew is back to work on the follow-up film titled “Happy Gilmore 2“. This time around, it includes Adam Sandler, Tim Herlihy, Robert Simonds, and Jack Giarraputo. Notably, Sandler and Herlihy have written the script for this upcoming sequel as they were also responsible for the original’s screenplay.
Whitley is widely recognized for her performances in TV shows such as The Parkers, The Neighborhood, Twenties, The Upshaws, and Act Your Age, as well as providing voices for The Boondocks and The Cleveland Show. Right now, she’s holding a residency at Jimmy Kimmel’s Comedy Club in Las Vegas until the end of this month. Alongside Sherri Shepherd, she co-hosts the popular podcast Two Funny Mamas, which has been recognized by the NAACP Image Awards.
Previously, Sandler and Whitley starred alongside each other in the 2020 Netflix film “Hubie Halloween”, and she was also featured in the 2023 Netflix comedy “You People”, led by Eddie Murphy.
Whitley is represented by Innovative Artists.
