Actor Miles Teller, famous for his role in Top Gun: Maverick, has talked about the upcoming sequel within the Top Gun series. Interestingly, he hasn’t definitively confirmed whether a third installment of the franchise is moving forward, but he did share that he asked Tom Cruise to inform him early if there were any plans for another movie so he could prepare accordingly.
As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Teller made an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. During this interview, he discussed his latest movie, Scott Derrickson’s Apple TV+ sci-fi thriller titled The Gorge. However, Colbert swiftly moved the conversation to another topic, and as the host himself put it, he was duty-bound to inquire about Top Gun 3. Colbert posed the question, “Is it coming?” Regrettably, Teller’s response did not provide the immediate affirmative answer that fans were anticipating.

I recently informed Tom [Cruise], “I require at least a month’s notice and some advanced preparation to get into shape. That’s one month for each set of abs, so I need six months’ advance warning.
During the interview, Colbert persistently inquired about the sequel to “Top Gun: Maverick” and asked Teller if it was indeed happening. However, Teller was prompt in his response, saying “I’m not sure. Fans are very excited, as are the creatives.” The late-night show host also probed Teller about whether he performed his own stunts like his previous co-star, Tom Cruise. Teller admitted that he did as many as possible and jokingly added that he carried out “most of them all.
A little over a year ago, we shared news about Paramount Pictures developing a follow-up to the 2022 hit film featuring Tom Cruise, Miles Teller, Jennifer Connelly, Glen Powell, Jon Hamm, and Ed Harris, among others. Joseph Kosinski was slated to return as director, with Ehren Kruger handling the script. However, despite months of anticipation, Top Gun 3 still hasn’t been unveiled. Although Miles Teller didn’t explicitly rule out his involvement in the sequel, his comments suggest that whatever is in store might take more time than initially anticipated. The jet fighters, it seems, are yet to be fully prepared for takeoff.
‘Top Gun 3’ Likely Depends on One Person: Tom Cruise
It took Paramount Pictures 36 years to produce a follow-up to the 1986 action movie that catapulted Tom Cruise into stardom. Discussions about a sequel started in 2010, but when the original Top Gun director, Tony Scott, passed away, the fate of the sequel was questionable. However, it wasn’t until Tom Cruise showed his strong desire for the project that Top Gun: Maverick came to life.
