As a hardcore gamer, I’m feeling pretty raw and real about the final show with my Black Sabbath crew, even though Parkinson’s has made it tough for me to move around these days. But hey, we’ve got unfinished business together on that stage, and I wouldn’t miss it for anything!
Legendary heavy metal pioneer, known as the “Godfather of Heavy Metal,” will reunite with the original Black Sabbath lineup – Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward – for a one-off concert after 20 years. The show, titled “Back to the Beginning,” is scheduled for July 5 at Villa Park in Birmingham, England.
Sharon Osbourne, his spouse, has shared with The Sun that “he’s overjoyed at the prospect of returning and is feeling quite emotional.
She noted that Parkinson’s is a condition that worsens over time, meaning it cannot be stopped or controlled. This illness impacts various bodily functions, specifically impacting his leg mobility, but his vocal abilities remain strong.
On his Sirius XM radio show on Wednesday, Osbourne expressed through The Independent, “I’ve made it to 2025. Although I can no longer walk, over the holidays, I found myself thinking: Despite all my complaining, I’m still alive. There are people who haven’t done as much as me and didn’t survive.
Over the past few years, I’ve been through some tough health trials, among them undergoing my fourth spinal operation. Moreover, I publicly disclosed my Parkinson’s diagnosis in 2020.
A while back, he expressed his frustration to Rolling Stone UK about not having the opportunity to express goodbyes or gratitude to his fans due to retiring from touring. He mentioned that he aimed to be well enough for a single performance where he could acknowledge them and say thank you for his life. Now, he’s fulfilling that aspiration with the Black Sabbath reunion show.
As I prepare to return to my roots, I find myself eagerly stepping back to where it all began – a place that has played such an integral role in shaping who I am today. It’s with immense gratitude that I can say I’ll be giving something back to the city that gave me life, and it’s truly a blessing to do so alongside those I hold dear. Birmingham holds a special place in my heart as the birthplace of metal music. Long live Birmingham!
Additionally, you can expect performances from renowned metal acts such as Metallica, Slayer, and Alice In Chains in the “Back to the Beginning” concert series.
