It’s hard to accept, but we’re just a few months away from potentially watching Tom Cruise’s final Mission: Impossible film. Scheduled for release in May 2025 is the movie titled Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, which seems like it could mark the end of Ethan Hunt’s nearly thirty-year tenure with the IMF. But what does Tom Cruise himself have to say about this?
A few months back, a teaser trailer for “The Final Reckoning” hinted at an impending farewell for the “M:I” series. This was suggested by its nod to Tom Cruise’s iconic scene from the first movie where he hung from the ceiling, and Hunt concluding the trailer by asking someone off-screen to trust him “one last time.” When asked about this, here’s what Cruise shared:
The film is definitely worth watching. At this point, I find it challenging to articulate its appeal as it’s an experience that needs to be had personally.
Hi there! It seems that Tom Cruise will undoubtedly persuade you to catch a film in theaters, as that’s his usual style. However, since we don’t know how the Mission: Impossible movie ends yet, it’s tough to say if this could be his grand finale. In an interview with Empire, writer/director Christopher McQuarrie was more direct in his response.
I believe it will be a fulfilling end to a 30-year narrative journey. I’m quite sure that many will agree the chosen title fits perfectly.
Over the last two “Mission: Impossible” films, Tom Cruise and McQuarrie have put in immense effort and passion since they initiated production at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in early 2020. This specific movie is said to have started filming in 2022 and completed production last November, all while having a whopping $400 million budget – placing it among the costliest films ever produced.
During the interview, Tom Cruise referred to “The Final Reckoning” as an “epic, emotional journey spanning the entire franchise,” likening it to “The Odyssey” and calling it “Homeric.” The cast for “Mission: Impossible 8” will include a variety of actors from previous films, such as Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Angela Bassett, and Hayley Atwell. When asked if “The Final Reckoning” might signal the end of things, Hayley Atwell noted the title’s implication before expressing that she wouldn’t be surprised if Cruise leaves room for further adventures, given his numerous ongoing projects.
Impossible” film, titled “Dead Reckoning,” released in 2023, was a box office flop. This leaves us curious about how this movie’s performance might have influenced the filmmakers and the level of interest audiences will show for what could potentially be Ethan Hunt’s final adventure. As we anticipate the arrival of “The Final Reckoning” on May 23, it would be a good idea to catch up on all the “Mission: Impossible” movies in sequence before its release.
