Enter Arrakis in Latest Trailer for Dune: Awakening

Fans of “Dune: Messiah” will have to wait a bit longer for its release in cinemas, but they can dive right into the universe of Frank Herbert’s “Dune” with the imminent launch of the game, “Dune: Awakening”.

As an ardent follower, I’m thrilled to share that our primary adventure unfolds on the sands of the extraordinary planet Dune! A fresh glimpse into this world has been unveiled, showcasing numerous desert locales that we, the players, will need to traverse.

Arrakis Trailer for Dune: Awakening

Known as “Arrakis’ Beauty”, the trailer offers a glimpse into the intricate details of this desert world. Players aren’t just given a ground-level view, but also a sneak peek at how they can traverse the landscape using an ornithopter – a device similar to a plane in our world.

Here’s the official description of the game:

Although primarily known as a desert world, Arrakis boasts a myriad of distinctive locales and varied ecosystems brimming with hidden wonders. Marvel at the stunning landscapes of Arrakis.

In the expansive, multiplayer game Dune: Awakening, journey from mere survival to supreme dominance as you confront the might of an Imperium. On the treacherous planet of Arrakis, evade sandworms, construct your own ornithopter, establish a fortress, and seize power in this vast, open world populated by hundreds of other players.

Locations depicted in the trailer encompass Hagga Basin South, O’odham, Vermillius Gap, Hagga Rift, and the Shield Wall. The city of Arrakeen is also featured, which is known as one of the biggest cities on this planet and served as the residence for the Atreides family when they relocated to Arrakis.

An Alternate Timeline

Initially, “Awakening” was intended for release sandwiched between the launches of “Dune” and “Dune: Part Two”, however, setbacks necessitated some adjustments in the development process.

Initially, the Fremen won’t be present in the game at its release because they were initially planned for a later stage, specifically during development of “Part Two”. Therefore, you should not anticipate seeing any sietches (Fremen dwellings) until after the first update.

It’s important to mention that in this alternate reality, Paul Atreides is not present. Instead, as part of their original scheme, Lady Jessica reportedly gave birth to a daughter instead.

The choice of shaping Arrakis’s future lies in the hands of its players. Will they side with the Fremen and their associates, or will they support the Imperium, who prioritize solely the harvesting of Spice?

Dune: Messiah

Since the third installment of “Dune: Awakening” has been given the go-ahead, Funcom’s team has plenty of time to cultivate a player community for the game. The narrative details of “Messiah” are still unclear, but it could potentially serve as a cautionary tale about Paul and liberate Arrakis from those attempting to dominate it.

After Chani departs from Paul’s company in “Part Two”, director Denis Villeneuve has a wide range of possibilities for the plot development on screen.

There’s no definitive launch date announced yet for “Dune: Awakening,” however, it’s anticipated that the game will be released on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC around the beginning of this year.
