A Viral Tweet Sparked The Batfleck Conversation Again, And I’m Loving How Many People Were Won Over

The superhero genre remains hugely popular, featuring multiple interconnected storylines. Following the conclusion of the DCEU (accessible via Max subscription), co-CEO James Gunn is now working on redefining the DC Universe. However, some enthusiasts lament the passing of the former franchise. This is evident in a trending tweet discussing Ben Affleck’s Batman character, as fans continue to express their admiration for him.

Although the actor/filmmaker has recently been in the news due to his divorce with Jennifer Lopez, many fans are still reminiscing about his time as Bruce Wayne/Batman. Fans who followed the DC series over the years got a glimpse of his gritty, hardened portrayal of the hero. Some were even hoping for more of him in future DC productions. The tweet in question is:

“Despite the recent divorce headlines, fans can’t forget his grizzled Batman. Those who followed the DC series eagerly want to see more of him in upcoming movies.

Due to Batman’s widespread fame, several actors have donned the cape and mask of the Dark Knight in movies. These include Michael Keaton, George Clooney, Val Kilmer, Ben Affleck, and more recently, Robert Pattinson. There seems to be ongoing discussion online about which actor embodied Batman most convincingly, and it appears that many film enthusiasts still appreciate Ben Affleck’s portrayal.

It turns out that many DC fans expressed their enthusiasm for Batfleck by sharing their love on this tweet. Some of the messages included:

  • I do! Batfleck forever!
  • Yes I do. I was at first not sure. But he won me over.
  • This is true
  • That shot with the music…so bleeping awesome! #MakeTheBatfleckMovie
  • #RestoreTheSnyderVerse

It’s not surprising that the campaign to restore Zack Snyder’s version of the DC Universe (the SnyderVerse) has become popular alongside the appreciation for Ben Affleck’s portrayal of Bruce Wayne. Since the release of Snyder’s take on Justice League, his fans have been advocating for this, hinting at where he would have gone with his two sequels. However, there’s been no sign that Warner Bros. intends to continue that storyline, especially considering James Gunn’s new DC Universe.

Although it’s unlikely that Zack Snyder will direct two more “Justice League” movies, Ben Affleck took part in reshoots for the Snyder Cut to allow the filmmaker to fully realize his vision. This included the Martian Manhunter finale and an extra Knightmare sequence hinting at the plot of future films.

As a movie enthusiast, I was looking forward to Zack Snyder’s complete five-film plan for the DCEU, but that never quite panned out. However, Ben Affleck, who played Batman in Snyder’s universe, found himself back in action for Andy Muschietti’s The Flash, and even made a brief appearance in Suicide Squad. Unfortunately, the studio opted to erase the entire shared universe and start fresh with James Gunn’s new vision.

I strongly appreciated Ben Affleck’s portrayal of Batman, particularly in “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice”. His performance was not only impressive physically but also intriguing with his portrayal of a weary, brutal version of the character. Instead of a traditional origin story, we got to see a seasoned Caped Crusader who had been hardened by his years as a vigilante. Regrettably, it seems that Batman played by Affleck won’t be making any appearances in the upcoming movie releases for 2025.
