‘Love Hurts’ Star’s Crush on Mustafa Shakir

You might recognize that Oscar-winning actors Ke Huy Quan (a standout from Everything Everywhere All at Once) and Ariana DeBose (from West Side Story) are spearheading the film “Love Hurts”, which has been timed perfectly for the run-up to Valentine’s Day. However, there’s also a large array of other popular actors contributing to the cast – Marshawn Lynch, Sean Astin, Rhys Darby, Cam Gigandet. Among them, Lio Tipton (known from Crazy, Stupid, Love) as a receptionist and Mustafa Shakir (from Ghosted) as a mercenary stand out particularly. In fact, there’s an amusing relationship dynamic between Tipton and Shakir in this new action-comedy, and MovieWeb recently interviewed them to gain more insights.

Tipton explained to us that what just happened seemed unrealistic due to its outlandish tone, difficult setup, and the challenge of making even over-the-top, seemingly absurd actions feel genuine. He mentioned that working with Mustafa, they aimed to create a sense of authenticity for their characters, ensuring that everything, no matter how outlandish, felt believable to them.

Mustafa has an extraordinary ability to understand people in a profound way that is unlike anything I’ve ever experienced. Unlike me, who doesn’t delve into energy readings and such, Mustafa seems to be able to peer deep into a person’s soul. His eyes are already intense, but he uses them to truly see within you. Performing alongside him was an extraordinary, collaborative experience that felt genuinely unique. In all honesty, working with him was the best part of it all.

Working with Ke Huy Quan: “Let’s Have Fun”

Afterward, there’s Quan, who plays the charming lead character, and Ashley, Tipton’s quirky character from Love Hurts. Ashley shares an amusingly absurd relationship with Quan, as she works for him (Quan) in the role of assistant. When Quan’s life takes an unexpected turn, Ashley gets entangled in all the chaos. “It was such a pleasure collaborating with Ke,” shared Tipton. “He truly is one of the nicest and most talented individuals I have ever worked with.” The entire cast and crew were exceptional, and the environment on set was just fantastic.

In this revised version, I’ve attempted to make the text more conversational and easier to read while maintaining the original meaning.

Tipton continued:

On the first day of filming, I find it particularly intense because the rhythm of events is unpredictable. This time, I was thrust into a long, continuous scene set in an office, where we shoot everything in one take. Since multitasking isn’t my strong suit, I was quite anxious about having to handle papers, move objects, remember my lines, and hit my marks all at once. Fortunately, Ke’s positivity made the environment very welcoming, encouraging experimentation, and allowing for a fun experience.

Lipton emphasized that the main theme throughout the production was enjoyment: “It’s like saying, ‘Let’s have a good time. If we’re not enjoying ourselves, the audience won’t either.'” This mindset made comedy flow naturally, he explained. So, go ahead and witness this theme in action as you watch Love Hurts, now showing in theaters from Universal Pictures.
