Bob the Drag Queen expressed feeling proud and confident about his performance, telling The Hollywood Reporter that he believed he did a commendable job during his time on Peacock’s Emmy Award-winning series ‘The Traitors’.
38-year-old winner from the hit series RuPaul’s Drag Race, which also won an Emmy Award, was unexpectedly eliminated during the fourth episode of season three that aired in mid-January. In a moment that might be remembered as one of the most memorable truth-telling sessions after elimination on the show hosted by Alan Cumming, Bob the Drag Queen confessed to the group sincerely and forcefully: “My devoted fans, listen to my words attentively. I will speak the truth, but I will never lie. You all know, I’ve never lied. Gentlemen, I swear on god.
Next, undeniably, the grand unveiling. “In fact, that was a falsehood since I don’t profess faith in a higher power. I’m a renegade,” he coolly discloses to the remainder of the troupe as they explode with jubilation for their triumph, marking his dramatic departure from the TV series’ Scottish Highland castle.
Bob the Drag Queen advises his friends not to plan an exit line for when they’re on Drag Race, as it appears as if they’re planning to depart. He clarified that he didn’t go onto the show with a pre-prepared statement for elimination, explaining that he can think and respond quite well spontaneously.
The former contestant on “Drag Race”, who is about to release his first book titled “Harriet Tubman: Live in Concert“, admitted that the now famous quote didn’t come to him until close to the moment. “I was sort of crafting it as it had become apparent that I was leaving,” he quipped, adding that it was when everyone seemed to have abandoned him despite all he had done for them.
Bob the Drag Queen clarified that he made a mistake in his previous statement. He explained that instead of expressing what he truly intended to say, which was ‘I swear to God, and that wasn’t a lie because I don’t believe in God,’ he unintentionally said ‘But that was a lie.’ Bob acknowledged that he misspoke.
The events surrounding Bob the Drag Queen’s early departure didn’t stop with his exit, it continued. In fact, it was another contestant, Boston Rob, who is known for his reality TV stardom and past participation on Survivor, who significantly influenced Bob the Drag Queen’s image in the eyes of the show’s participants (the players trying to identify and eliminate the Traitors). Unfortunately, both Boston Rob and Bob the Drag Queen were eliminated in Thursday’s episode following a vote by most of the roundtable.
During his discussion with the other contestants for the vote-out round (where they decide who they believe is the Traitor), Bob the Drag Queen admitted that he was unusually quiet. “On that day, I was experiencing a lot of emotional turmoil,” he explained. “I decided to keep calm and take things easy, taking some time off for myself. However, I learned that tomorrow isn’t always guaranteed, which I discovered the hard way.
I was unaware they were secretly planning against me. It turns out Rob had been discussing my elimination with other betrayers. He clearly managed to convince them, which is infuriating because if Carolyn and Danielle hadn’t voted me off, I would still be here.
As a devoted fan, I’ve always felt that Bob the Drag Queen might have been a traitor since day one, but my suspicions never quite panned out. In his own words, “Bob didn’t manage to sway Boston Rob. Boston Rob was onto him because, after all, he’s a traitor himself,” the drag queen and podcaster shared.
The confrontation between Bob and Rob seemed unavoidable to Bob the Drag Queen. “I recall thinking, ‘Either I’ll take him down or he’ll take me out.’ But I never anticipated it would happen in episode four,” he admits, noting that he believed they could remain friendly a bit longer. “I thought we’d reach episode six or seven and then part ways amicably. But for now, let’s just focus on the Faithfuls. I didn’t realize he was targeting me.
Apart from his belief that other factors were involved, he pointed out his strong character and assertive demeanor during the show. He hinted that perhaps there was a subtle competition going on, of which he was unaware. “It seemed like I was unwittingly part of some sort of power struggle,” he stated. “I was quite a noticeable figure in the house, always taking charge, and maybe there just isn’t room for two alpha individuals in the same space.
However, he doesn’t entirely lay the fault on his supposed traitorous companions. Instead, he explains that the disarray among the Traitors stems from the fact that Boston Rob set up a situation where the Traitors cannot rely on each other.
Despite the deception that took place at their meeting, Bob the Drag Queen continues to strongly support one of his former adversaries in reaching the finale – a twist he refuses to reveal, given his strong stance against spoilers. “I am rooting for Danielle Reyes to make it to the end and emerge as the sole winner of this season,” he explains. “That’s my hope for season three.
Traitors releases new episodes Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT on Peacock.
