90’s teen idol, Devon Sawa, who was famously known for his role in the 2000 movie “Final Destination,” shares some insights about his possible involvement in the upcoming sequel of the franchise titled “Final Destination: Bloodlines.” This new installment is planned to hit the screens by Warner Bros. on May 16, 2026, marking the return of the series that paused its production in 2011 with “Final Destination 5.
Originally in “Final Destination”, the character Sawa portrayed Alex Browning, a high school student embarking on a senior trip to Paris with his class via airplane. During this flight, he had a premonition of a catastrophic event – the plane malfunctioning and exploding mid-air. Terrified by his vision, Browning manages to convince some fellow students to leave the plane before it takes off. Now, you can probably guess what comes next…
In the world of the “Final Destination” series, death is an unavoidable fact. Characters who manage to cheat death meet their grisly ends in intricate and bizarre ways, similar to Rube Goldberg machines. So, it looks like “Final Destination: Bloodlines” will follow suit with its own creative kills.
In a conversation with Forbes, Sawa discussed his latest project, the unique blend of romance, comedy, and horror titled “Heart Eyes.” He also touched upon “Final Destination: Bloodlines” and revealed that he will not be reprising his role in the 2025 film, which also functions as a prequel to the initial movie. Ever an advocate for the horror genre, Sawa expressed his support for everyone working on the upcoming production.
I’m on the sidelines for this one, as every film has a fresh crop of talent. Teo Briones, who brought my son to life in Chucky’s first season, is part of the cast now, and I can’t help but cheer him on. I’ve always been a fan, rushing to the cinema for each installment of the Final Destination series. I can hardly wait to see what this new cast will do with it. Perhaps one day in the future; who knows? But for now, I’ll be watching from the audience, and I hear fantastic things about it.
Over the past few years, the actor has experienced a well-earned resurgence, appearing in shows like “Chucky” on TV and movies such as “Hunter Hunter” and “Consumed”. Initially slated to reappear in “Final Destination 2”, personal matters prevented this from happening. The last time we saw Alex Browning was at the end of “Final Destination 5”, where it’s disclosed that the story occurs before the initial events, and the surviving characters even board the ill-fated plane bound for Paris.
A ‘Final Destination’ Icon Will Return in ‘Bloodlines’
Although Sawa won’t be back for “Final Destination: Bloodlines”, fans can still look forward to the return of a cherished character. The iconic actor Tony Todd, who tragically passed away in 2024, will appear posthumously in the sixth movie of the series. Todd portrayed William Bludworth, the funeral director with an uncanny understanding of death and its malicious tendencies, a role that was pivotal in the “Final Destination” films.
In all the “Final Destination” movie series, except for one, Todd made an appearance. That one exception was “The Final Destination,” which is often considered forgettable as the fourth installment. In “Final Destination 3,” however, Todd only lent his voice to the eerie character resembling a devil at the entrance of a roller coaster where the gruesome opening scene unfolds—a scene that’s widely regarded as one of the best in the entire “Final Destination” cinematic universe.
