In the 2025 Super Bowl matchup between the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles, Ritz Crackers will be unveiling a brand-new commercial, featuring two particularly salty actors in the limelight.
In the fictitious Salt Club nestled within the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah, Aubrey Plaza and Michael Shannon are portrayed as members of this seemingly elusive group, which only accepts the saltiest individuals. Shannon quips to Plaza, “When I smile, people think it’s a malfunction,” to which she retorts, “Pfft, I’m Monday personified.” She even hisses at Shannon for added effect. They then casually grab some Ritz crackers. Pondering aloud, Plaza wonders, “What’s so great about Ritz? It’s infuriating,” as Shannon examines one more closely and calls them “arrogant, buttery, salty show-offs.” To their dismay, Bad Bunny is present, seemingly enjoying himself and blatantly ignoring the “No Smiling” sign that Shannon highlights.
Besides the globally recognized artist Bad Bunny, you might recognize Aubrey Plaza and Michael Shannon, both boasting extensive acting careers. However, where exactly have you encountered them? Spanning blockbuster movies, acclaimed TV mockumentaries, and critically-acclaimed dramas, here’s why these two faces seem so recognizable to you.
Aubrey Plaza is a small-screen staple who’s also appeared in tons of independent films
Over the course of her career, Aubrey Plaza has earned a reputation for her dry, witty performances, but this label doesn’t confine her roles as some might think. In fact, she has demonstrated an impressive versatility across numerous projects. She initially gained recognition for her portrayal of April Ludgate, the unmotivated intern in the Parks department on the popular NBC show “Parks and Recreation,” sharing screen time with Amy Poehler, Nick Offerman, and Chris Pratt. Additionally, she made an appearance early in her career in “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World,” alongside several other rising stars. In lesser-known indie films like “The To Do List,” “Life After Beth,” “The Little Hours,” “Ingrid Goes West,” and “Black Bear,” Plaza showcased her wide acting range. More recently, she has been seen in movies such as “Happiest Season” and “Emily Criminal,” further solidifying her versatility.
2022 saw Alma Plaza join the principal cast of Mike White’s acclaimed series “The White Lotus,” receiving an Emmy nomination for her performance as the rigid yet intelligent Harper Spiller; two subsequent years found her enjoying a memorable turn in another significant TV appearance, playing Death herself (Rio Vidal) on the Marvel Studios show “Agatha All Along.” On the silver screen, Plaza featured in two films that premiered in 2024 – the tender comedy “My Old Ass” and Francis Ford Coppola’s controversial production “Megalopolis.” With her recent foray into production via her company Evil Hag Productions, it is clear that we can look forward to more outstanding achievements from this versatile actress.
Michael Shannon is known for playing particularly intense roles
Regarding Michael Shannon, it’s fair to say that his acting career has been defined by portraying highly intense and sometimes chilling characters. After initially appearing in the classic comedy “Groundhog Day,” he spent several years taking on supporting roles in various films. However, his breakthrough came in 2008 with the Academy Award-nominated performance in “Revolutionary Road” alongside Leonardo DiCaprio, Kate Winslet, and Kathy Bates, who played Shannon’s mother. A few years later, in 2011, Shannon starred in the gripping film “Take Shelter,” which was directed by Jeff Nichols, a partnership that led to future collaborations on films like “Mud,” “Midnight Special,” and “Loving.” In 2013, he became widely known for his portrayal of General Zod in “Man of Steel” (he also reprised the role in “The Flash” in 2023).
As a gamer, I’ve been captivated by the diverse acting roles of this talented individual on my screen. From gripping series like “Boardwalk Empire,” “Nine Perfect Strangers,” and “George & Tammy,” to blockbuster movies such as “The Shape of Water,” “Knives Out” (the first one), “Bullet Train,” “Amsterdam,” “The Bikeriders,” and a memorable cameo in the critically acclaimed 2024 release, “A Different Man.
As a football enthusiast, I’m excitedly counting down the hours until Super Bowl LIX kicks off at 6:30 PM EST! And guess what? Keep your eyes peeled, because you won’t want to miss the thrilling Ritz commercial airing during the game!
