Leo Woodall on Why Playing a Heartthrob Can Make Him “Feel Quite Vulnerable and Exposed”

For Leo Woodall, playing an onscreen heartthrob has its ups and downs.

The star, recognized for his performances in “The White Lotus” and “One Day,” has spoken about whether he experiences feelings of being objectified when portraying a leading role, in an interview with the U.K. publication RadioTimes.

“Yeah, it’s a mixed bag. In some ways it’s part of the gig,” he responded.

Additionally, there are aspects of it that can leave you feeling quite exposed and vulnerable,” Woodall explained. “These aren’t the enjoyable parts. When you’re portraying a character as described, you can’t help but question, ‘Am I really like this character?’ There’s often a sense of pressure in making audiences believe your portrayal.”

Woodall added that there are parts of it that make you feel vulnerable and exposed. These aren’t the enjoyable aspects. When you play a character, you might wonder, ‘Am I really like this character?’ There can be pressure to convince people that your portrayal is genuine.

In the second season of “The White Lotus,” he portrays the character Jack, a rogue. He also played Dexter, a charming playboy in the movie “One Day.” Now, he is starring as Roxster McDuff, Renée Zellweger’s younger love interest, in the latest sequel of “Bridget Jones” titled “Mad About the Boy.

Additionally, Woodall expressed his views during the interview about the contemporary pattern in movies and series featuring mature romantic relationships across age gaps, like those depicted in “Babygirl”, “May-December”, and “The Idea of You”.

The actor from Prime Target noted that there’s a certain dynamic, long present in the real world, which has recently found its way onto the screen. He isn’t quite sure why this is happening, but it’s significant because filmmaking excels at depicting diverse aspects of life. However, the series Bridget deviates from that norm as it focuses more on Bridget’s grief and motherhood. Fortunately, my character enters the scene to bring some cheer to her.
