Selecting the ideal actor for the villain role in the upcoming TV series, who will take over the role of Lord Voldemort, is a daunting task given the exceptional performance by the previous actor in the Harry Potter movies. In a recent interview, the actor, known for his work in the James Bond franchise and the upcoming film 28 Years Later, shared that he came close to losing one of his most memorable roles due to what he described as “unfounded snobbery.
Fans of the Harry Potter film series have yet to fully embrace the notion of another performer stepping into the shoes of Voldemort, as Ralph Fiennes’ portrayal of the malevolent character has left a lasting impression on pop culture. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, he revealed that it was his sister, Martha, who persuaded him to accept the role. He stated:
“The idea of another actor playing Voldemort is still hard for fans to accept because Ralph Fiennes’ portrayal has become so deeply ingrained in pop culture. In a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, he explained that it was his sister, Martha, who convinced him to take on the role.
I hadn’t watched the films or read the books, and I wasn’t particularly fond of them due to a misplaced sense of snobbery towards witches, goblins, and similar themes. I was resistant to them until my sister Martha insisted that I should take on the role of Voldemort because it was offered to me. She said, ‘Voldemort? You’ve been asked to play Voldemort? You have to do it! Ralph, you don’t realize, you don’t realize.’
Ralph Fiennes Would Play Voldemort in the ‘Harry Potter’ TV Series
Similar to several actors who once played characters in the Harry Potter series, Fiennes is often questioned about revisiting his role as Voldemort. While the character’s story concluded in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, he would gladly take up the villainous role again if given the opportunity.
Although a multi-year plan for a Harry Potter TV series might exclude Fiennes from the role due to producers potentially seeking a slightly younger actor, the casting may not occur for several years until the TV series reaches Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire – where Fiennes first portrayed Voldemort on screen in the films. However, Fiennes has expressed his thoughts about who could be a great fit as his successor in this role. Previously, he mentioned:
1. “Cillian Murphy is an exceptional performer, and I wholeheartedly agree with your recommendation. I’d definitely support him.” (Informal)
2. “Cillian Murphy is truly a marvelous actor, and I completely concur with your idea. I’m all for having him on board.” (Formal)
The actor known as Oppenheimer has been frequently mentioned by fans for portraying Voldemort, and his performance in Peaky Blinders demonstrates that he is equally skilled at handling small-screen roles as well as leading blockbusters in Hollywood. For the time being, however, it remains uncertain who will embody the Dark Lord in the upcoming Harry Potter series adaptation. Let’s hope they avoid repeating the near-mistake made by Fiennes when contemplating the role.
