In the hit series “The Walking Dead“, the character Rosita Espinosa, portrayed by Christian Serratos, was highly admired by fans and proved to be quite formidable. She was the one who met her end on the show last, with Luke (Dan Fogler) and his partner Jules (Alex Sgambati) having perished earlier in the final episode. However, Rosita’s demise was particularly heart-wrenching, considering many significant characters had been killed off throughout the series. This speaks volumes about the poignancy of her death on “The Walking Dead”.
Rosita embarked on quite an adventure. Initially, she was Abraham’s girlfriend and guardian of Eugene. But when Abraham was killed, her desire for revenge against the perpetrator, Negan (played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan), intensified. This led her to confront Negan, putting herself at odds with his group, the Saviors. However, over time, she grew more relaxed in Seasons 8 and 9, and eventually became pregnant with her daughter, who was affectionately known as Coco.
Rosita underwent a profound transformation upon becoming a mother, and despite her life being cut short not long after her daughter’s birth, she went to great lengths to ensure Coco (portrayed by Eleni and Elijah Carrillo) had the necessary safeguards to endure in a world filled with walkers and deceitful humans. However, the circumstances surrounding Rosita’s demise remain unclear – when and how did she pass away?
In what episode does Rosita get introduced?
In what part of “The Walking Dead’s” storyline does Rosita make her appearance? She was introduced together with Abraham (Michael Cudlitz) and Eugene (Josh McDermitt) during the 10th episode of Season 4, titled “Inmates.” In this episode, they discover Tara (Alanna Masterson) and an unconscious Glenn (Steven Yeun) on the road. They offer them a lift in their military vehicle. However, once Glenn wakes up, he decides to leave the vehicle, with Abraham and Rosita in pursuit. The group later reveals that they are transporting Eugene to Washington, D.C., as he is a scientist who possesses crucial information on ending the zombie apocalypse. Unfortunately, during their journey, a swarm of walkers approaches them, causing a shootout — primarily by the inexperienced Eugene — which damages the vehicle’s gas tanks and renders it unusable.
Eventually, Rosita, Abraham, and Eugene manage to locate a bus and depart towards Washington D.C. But before they reach their destination, Eugene confides the truth: He’s not really a scientist, and he has no idea how to halt the walker epidemic. In fact, he only pretended to be one in order to persuade Abraham and Rosita to safeguard him. This revelation is met with disappointment by both Rosita and Abraham, leading Abraham to physically assault Eugene (a justified response given his anger over being deceived). However, they ultimately decide to return to their group of survivors with Tara and Glenn, and choose to stay with them instead.
What kills Rosita on The Walking Dead
Essentially, it was a walker that proved fatal for Rosita. During her attempt to rescue baby Coco from an orphanage, which was under the control of Governor Pamela Milton of the Commonwealth, Rosita was bitten while escaping from a group of walkers with Gabriel and Eugene. They were trying to flee after scaling a pipe on a building. Unfortunately, Rosita slipped and fell among the walkers below. Desperate to protect Coco, she got back up, fought off the zombies, and managed to reach an upper window from the pipe.
In simpler terms, Pamela unintentionally led a large number of walkers towards the Commonwealth, causing its overrun and ultimately resulting in Rosita’s death. Despite efforts to apprehend Pamela by Michael Mercer and the Commonwealth’s army, it was too late for Rosita who was already gravely injured. She spent her final moments with loved ones, including Coco, sharing meals and farewells. It was Eugene who ensured Rosita wouldn’t return as a walker after her death.
What happens to Coco after Rosita’s death?
Following Rosita’s passing, Gabriel assumes sole responsibility for raising Coco, as depicted in the series finale’s conclusion. Despite not being her biological father, Gabriel was involved with Rosita when she gave birth to Coco and had come to terms with the fact that Siddiq (Avi Nash), a community doctor, was Coco’s biological parent due to a previous relationship. Tragically, Siddiq was killed by a Whisperer and turned into a walker. Rosita found and fatally wounded Siddiq before he could harm Coco. In a later scene, after being bitten herself, Rosita dies, and Gabriel performs her last rites, removing Coco from the bedroom to spare her the sight of her mother’s demise.
For now, it appears that Coco resides under a degree of protection alongside Gabriel, within the Commonwealth, where Ezekiel (Khary Payton) now holds the position of governor. It’s reasonable to suppose that Ezekiel is better equipped for this role than his predecessor, and given the circumstances of this walker-infested world, Coco seems to have a relatively content life. As for Eugene, who previously assisted with Coco when she was an infant, he now has a child of his own. It’s probable that he assists with Coco whenever possible, along with other community members.
Why was Rosita killed off?
As a dedicated fan of The Walking Dead, I was left heartbroken when Rosita met her untimely end during the series finale. Her tragic demise was even more devastating given she had a young child to care for. If you’re curious about who made this fateful decision, look no further than the brilliant actress behind Rosita – Christian Serratos. In an interview, Serratos revealed that the cast members were all eagerly speculating about who would bite the dust in the final episode. However, they began to question if there were any major deaths left to write. This notion didn’t sit well with Serratos, who took it upon herself to pitch her character’s death to showrunner Angela Kang. According to Serratos, she did this not just for the storyline but also to put an end to her own musings about potential spin-offs.
As a gamer putting myself in Serratos’ shoes, I was on edge, unsure if Rosita would return or not. It was driving me up the wall! But, hearing her explanation in Entertainment Weekly brought some closure for me. She felt that Rosita’s departure, particularly the way it happened, was fitting for the character and the show. After all, Rosita was ready to give up her life for those she loved, including her child, and Serratos believed this decision aligned perfectly with the character. In a darker tone, she mentioned that a series like this, where losing loved ones is a possibility, should lose someone in the end – it’s what the fans deserved as part of the show’s narrative. If that makes sense.
