This holiday season, Lacey Chabert was busy everywhere. She continued her yearly tradition on Hallmark‘s Countdown to Christmas with “The Christmas Quest,” but also moved to streaming services to lead in Netflix’s “Hot Frosty.” Instead of taking a break, she has already lined up another role for Hallmark, appearing in “An Unexpected Valentine” which premiered on February 1. Interestingly enough, I wouldn’t have predicted what drew her to this particular project.
Titled “An Unforeseen Valentine“, this film, praised by TopMob’s Jessica Rawden as a “sure hit”, features Lacey Chabert and Robert Buckley, both familiar faces on the Hallmark channel. Unlike Chabert who is often associated with Hallmark movies, she hasn’t starred in one of their Loveuary productions for some time. So what draws her to this film, and why is it released now? The actress shared with Southern Living that…
In a while, I hadn’t produced a film set on Valentine’s Day. Yet, this script captivated me. The concept of it unfolding within a single night appealed to me greatly – an innovative approach to cinematography. Additionally, the simplicity of having just one costume throughout the entire movie was a delightful challenge.
Indeed, this response is not only charming but also quite understandable. I appreciate Lacey Chabert’s insight that a story spanning a single day means she’ll mostly be in one outfit, and the prospect of limited wardrobe changes could potentially sway her involvement in the film.
Not just is her film costume a single piece, but it appears quite comfy as well!
In her words, it’s captivating how a Hallmark movie can be confined within such a brief period. Even the classic Hallmark Christmas movie structure necessitates some time to establish tension between their initial encounter and the final kiss before the end credits. However, the plot twist of “An Unexpected Valentine” seems to offer this couple plenty of time!
If you happened to miss its initial airing, Lacey Chabert plays Hannah, who’s frantically trying to ignore Valentine’s Day when she jumps into a ride-share and discovers an engagement ring inside. The driver Finn (Robert Buckley) then takes her on a city tour in an attempt to locate the owner of the ring, during which they develop a surprising bond. (I can only hope he didn’t charge her for the entire ride!)
Spending the entire day driving around the city in a car race implies Hannah doesn’t change her outfit throughout the day, unless she’s using unusual costumes or unexpectedly going shopping – and it’s understandable why this could be viewed as “quite enjoyable” by the actress.
As a movie critic, I’ve often found myself reflecting on the challenges faced by actors during the filming of Christmas movies in sweltering weather – Alison Sweeney herself has expressed her discomfort about it, and I can only imagine that February’s Loveuary films don’t offer much respite. After all, transitioning from one steamy costume to another doesn’t exactly sound like a recipe for comfort.
If you missed ‘An Unexpected Valentine’ initially, don’t fret! Lacey Chabert’s film is set to air once more, just days before Valentine’s Day. Make sure to jot down February 15 (10 p.m. ET) on your calendar for its replay on the Hallmark Channel.
