Caution: Minor spoilers for Night 2 of Season 27’s ‘The Voice’ Blind Auditions, which aired on February 10th, are included in this discussion. If you want to watch it later, you can stream the episode using a subscription to Peacock.
Over time, “The Voice” has become quite heated at certain instances, and no one should be more aware of this than Adam Levine. As the original coach, he made a comeback for Season 27 (airing now on the 2025 TV schedule). Since he’s been part of some of the show’s most contentious moments, it was utterly amusing when he claimed in an interview that “The Voice” isn’t about competition. True to his words, we’re only two episodes into the new season, and Michael Bublé might have already validated Adam’s claim.
What Adam Levine Said About The Voice Not Being A Competition Show
Enthusiasts were delighted as Adam Levine rejoined veterans like John Legend and Michael Bublé, along with newcomer Kelsea Ballerini on the judging panel for The Voice this season. Perhaps it’s because his longtime rival Blake Shelton has given up his Big Red Chair, but Adam appeared to adopt a more amicable coaching style, as he shared with People before Season 27:
As a passionate movie enthusiast, I no longer view this as a contest, though I anticipate some might take issue with that perspective. However, it’s never been about competition; it’s about us using this platform to share our cinematic journeys with the audience. That has always been its essence.
I find myself quite fond of this fresh approach, as it seems to prioritize enriching the artist’s experience over solely focusing on winning. Honestly, I’ve long felt that The Voice would benefit from removing the Blocks for this very reason. To elaborate further, Levine stated…
You undeniably exhibit a competitive spirit, and it’s clear that you’re driven to excel. However, I don’t view our situation as a competition. Instead, I believe that each of us brings unique experiences from life and our careers to the table, which can be incredibly valuable for the contestants on the show who are seeking guidance or a push forward. That’s what I think our role is.
Absolutely, I support that idea, as it’s clear that winning money isn’t the only opportunity for an artist to benefit from this experience. Just a small doubt, but his softer, friendlier side was something I found hard to accept, even though I saw it on the panel, thanks to the Canadian crooner. It didn’t take long for me to realize it, either.
How Michael Bublé Helped To Prove Adam Levine Right
During the second round of blind auditions, which aired on February 10th, Hayden Grove stepped onto the stage for a performance of “Mack the Knife”, a tune that seemed right up Michael Bublé’s alley. Interestingly enough, Bublé has interacted with Grove in real life and keeps tabs on him through social media. However, by the end of the audition, only Adam Levine had swiveled his chair around.
In the explanation of the Season 26 champion coach, it was mentioned that Hayden Grove’s use of vibrato made him hesitate. Surprisingly, Michael Bublé stepped onto the stage to illustrate the conventional way standards are performed. Despite Grove joining an opposing team, Bublé showed a desire to help Grove improve his artistry, expressing this to Adam Levine by saying he wanted to assist in its refinement.
My idea is this: You will assist him in his endeavors. Given that he is part of your team and shows great promise for excelling, I want to offer my support in helping you support him, as he possesses all the necessary qualities.
Adam Levine, for his part, welcomed the offer, telling his new team member:
Although I may not be familiar with every note in the song you just sang, your powerful voice certainly resonates with me! Regardless of the depth of my musical knowledge, it’s undeniable that we’re about to enjoy this moment together.
In this specific scenario, the coaches’ concern was solely about what benefited Hayden Grove most, rather than debating who would claim the victory (even though I wouldn’t mind a collaboration like Team Levineblé or Team Madam). You can view the complete audition here:

I’m not suggesting that “The Voice” has transformed into a harmonious gathering, but the camaraderie among coaches doesn’t diminish the competitive spirit. Michael Bublé demonstrated this ruthless side when he blocked Kelsea Ballerini to get country artist Braxton Garza on his team, and Adam Levine savored the victory in the third Four-Chair Turn, delighting in his triumph over his fellow coaches.
You’re reminding me of the usual Adam Levine. Tune in for The Voice every Monday at 8 PM Eastern Time, only on NBC.
