Currently, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is bursting with activity, making it simple to overlook a project or two that have been announced for upcoming Marvel films. Needless to say, fans are thrilled about the trio of movies set to hit theaters in 2025, starting this weekend with Anthony Mackie’s “Captain America: Brave New World”. There appears to be a lot of story development leading up to “Avengers: Doomsday”, which will mark Robert Downey Jr.’s return to the MCU. However, there have been whispers and hints about “Black Panther 3“, a film that seems set to feature Denzel Washington! But what’s intriguing is how Black Panther 3 plans to address T’Challa, so I reached out to producer Nate Moore for clarification.
Nate Moore has been associated with Marvel Studios since its initial stages and has progressed to become a producer for movies like “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” “Black Panther,” and “Eternals.” Recently, Moore announced his departure from Marvel to pursue personal ventures. However, before he leaves, he will be producing “Black Panther 3,” one of his last projects in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). At a recent press day for “Captain America: Brave New World,” TopMob questioned Moore about fans’ readiness to see a new actor portray T’Challa, either as a replacement or as a character from another universe. Moore responded with genuine candor when he shared his thoughts on the topic.
1. In my opinion, some belong to this category, while others do not. Regarding our future actions, we aim to avoid anything that might appear insincere or low-quality. However, I can’t confirm whether such an element exists or not because we haven’t discussed it yet. Whatever it may be, it will definitely be purposeful. Ryan Coogler, being a devoted admirer of this series, wishes for it to seem genuine, authentic, and deserving. I want to ensure that it doesn’t come off as a mere marketing trick.
2. To me, some items fit the bill, but others do not. We haven’t decided on something specific yet since we haven’t talked about it. Whatever we choose, it will be carefully considered. Ryan Coogler, who is passionate about this franchise, wants it to feel authentic and organic. I want to make sure that our decision doesn’t seem like a gimmick or shortcut.
The popular “Black Panther” series suffered a deep emotional setback with the passing of its main actor, Chadwick Boseman, after a secret fight against colon cancer. To honor his character’s storyline, the illness was incorporated into T’Challa’s journey in the sequel “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” where Letitia Wright’s Shuri assumed the role following her unsuccessful attempts to create a cure for her brother. As the movie ended, Marvel introduced a son for both T’Challa and Nakia (Lupita Nyong’o), leaving fans speculating about how they might bring Black Panther into a fresh era.
If Marvel Studios wanted to give the young boy some more time before he could take up the mantle, they might choose to follow a similar approach as with other characters like Reed Richards, Wolverine, Johnny Storm, Spider-Man, and others. They could select an actor to portray a multiverse version of T’Challa in films such as “Avengers: Doomsday” or “Avengers: Secret Wars”. Later, they could cast another actor to play Prince T’Challa in a future Black Panther series. The decision is now with Marvel Studios.
Regardless of their choice, I’m eager to hear from Nate Moore himself about the thoughts of Nate Moore and Ryan Coogler regarding the consequences of their decisions. They understand that fans have a deep affection for T’Challa as a character, and they must handle Chadwick Boseman’s legacy with care in any future Marvel projects. Let’s keep an eye out for potential hints about Wakanda’s direction in Captain America: Brave New World, and continue discussing this topic as the year progresses.
