‘Masters of the Universe’: James Purefoy, Charlotte Riley Cast as He-Man’s Parents (Exclusive)

He-Man’s royal parents have been found.

Actors James Purefoy and Charlotte Riley will portray King Randor and Queen Marlena respectively, in a live-action adaptation of Masters of the Universe, being produced by Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel Films.

James Purefoy and Charlotte Riley have been chosen to play King Randor and Queen Marlena in the live-action version of Masters of the Universe, produced by Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel Films.

Travis Knight will be overseeing the global cinematic release of the film scheduled for June 5, 2026, by Amazon MGM.

The idea revolves around Prince Adam of Eternia, a character introduced in the 1980s toyline and animated series. By wielding his Power Sword, he transforms into the powerful He-Man, gaining superhuman strength and abilities. Alongside a group of companions, he protects their planet from the malevolent Skeletor and his troops.

In this story, Nicholas Galitzine portrays a prince skilled with swords, while Jared Leto takes on the role of the sinister Skeletor – an enigmatic sorcerer in search of the hidden mysteries within Castle Grayskull.

Additionally on the call sheet, we have Camila Mendes playing Teela, Morena Baccarin taking the role of the Sorceress, Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn, Johannes Haukur Johannesson portraying Malcolm/Fisto, Idris Elba cast as Duncan/Man-at-Arms, Sam C. Wilson for Trap Jaw, Hafthor Bjornsson as Goat Man, and Kojo Attah in the role of Tri-Klops.

According to the storyline of “Masters of the Universe”, King Randor remains oblivious to the fact that his son transforms into the valiant He-Man. Instead, he perceives him as idle due to his apparent avoidance of royal responsibilities. In contrast, the Queen starts to harbor a few doubts.

The screenplay was originally penned by Chris Butler, with early versions contributed by David Callaham and the Nee brothers (Aaron and Adam). The production is being handled jointly by Escape Artists and Mattel Films.

Veteran actor Purefoy gained fame for his performances in the critically-acclaimed series “Rome” on HBO and “The Following,” where he acted alongside Kevin Bacon. Most recently, he was seen working with Elisabeth Moss in “The Veil,” available on Hulu. He is currently represented by CAA Linden and Independent Talent Group.

Riley, a talented actress from England, has previously been featured in movies like “London Has Fallen,” “Edge of Tomorrow,” and the TV show “Peaky Blinders.” Upcoming, she will make an appearance as the lead in Stefan Golaszewski’s BBC drama series titled “Babies.” Her career is managed by CVGG.
