Shocking Cast Promotion in ‘Nobody Wants This’ – What It Means for Esther’s Future!

One outstanding romantic comedy series to emerge in recent times, “Nobody Wants This” on Netflix, made its grand debut in September 2024, sparking a wave of nostalgia among Millennials for Adam Brody. The series was swiftly renewed for a second season, causing widespread excitement among fans – myself included. As we eagerly anticipate the show’s return (hopefully scheduled for 2025), we do know that Season 2 of “Nobody Wants This” is bringing changes to its cast by promoting Jackie Tohn!

As the victorious champion on “Celebrity Jeopardy!”, Tohn portrays Esther Roklov, and with her character becoming a regular in the series, we’re eagerly anticipating how her role as an instigator will unfold. I can’t wait to discover more about her character’s growth.

There’s no question in my mind that Season 2 will primarily focus on Noah and Joanne’s ongoing efforts to sustain their relationship, as they vowed to continue working things out in the final episode. But with the recent news of Tohn’s promotion, I can’t help but ponder what new directions the writers might take with her character, now that she has increased screen time for more impactful performances.

Esther Could Face Marital Struggles With Sasha

In the turbulent finale of Season 1, Esther learns that her husband, Sasha (Timothy Simons), has formed a friendship with Joanne’s free-spirited sister Morgan (Justine Lupe). While it’s unclear if there was any romantic involvement between them, some viewers suspect there were romantic overtones. Consequently, it’s not surprising that Esther feels uneasy about this hidden bond between Sasha and Morgan.

In the given episode, there was no significant argument between the married couple, but should the next season continue from where the first ended, it’s almost guaranteed that the moment Esther and Sasha share the screen will be dominated by a discussion about their issues.

Beyond the strain of their secret friendship, Esther harbors doubts about her role within Sasha’s family. Together, these factors create a potent mix that could lead to marital difficulties. Regardless of my personal hope for them staying together, it’s hard not to speculate about their future.

Another intriguing angle could be drawn by comparing their relationships, similar to Noah and Joanne’s, where Sasha and Esther, often regarded as the epitome of a perfect Jewish union, ultimately fail, contrasting with the resilience of Noah and Joanne’s bond.

Miriam Could Start Acting Out, Affecting Their Mother-Daughter Relationship

From the start, it’s clear that Miriam (Shiloh Bearman), the daughter of Esther and Sasha, takes a liking to Joanne. After all, who wouldn’t at her age? Unlike most adults in her life, Joanne doesn’t treat Miriam as if she were still a child, and she doesn’t dismiss her issues, not even when they stem from typical adolescent struggles.

Although Esther and Miriam briefly agree on modifying Esther’s Bat Mitzvah dress, the bond between a teenage girl and her mom is often rollercoaster-like. Given Esther’s growing animosity towards Joanne, it’s plausible that the podcast host could unintentionally meddle in their complex mother-daughter dynamics.

It’s quite possible that Miriam may share personal matters with Joanne rather than her mother, given that she has now reached adulthood in Jewish tradition. This development might further strain the relationship between Esther and Joanne, intensifying the existing tension in their already complicated situation.

Or, Maybe Esther Will Finally Come Around To Joanne’s Presence

While I’m not a complete Pollyanna, there’s a part of me that wishes increased screen time for Esther might foster a strong friendship between her and Joanne. Given the criticism the show received regarding how the Jewish woman in Noah’s life treated Joanne, a second season could provide an opportunity to rectify this issue by portraying them as friends. This would address concerns raised by many Jewish viewers and help correct any stereotypical representations.

It’s not essential that they become inseparable, but it would be beneficial if they could stand together, particularly in their efforts to gain Tovah Feldshuh’s, Noah and Sasha’s mother’s approval.

Production for Season 2 of “Nobody Wants This” is currently underway, and we’re eagerly awaiting its arrival among Netflix’s upcoming lineup later this year. In the meantime, why not revisit the first season by streaming it with a Netflix subscription?
