Universal Pictures has unveiled the complete trailer for their eagerly awaited real-life version of “How to Train Your Dragon“. This new edition is led by Dean DeBlois, who was behind the successful 2010 animated original. The remake plans to flesh out the narrative with more intricate character development, a broader mythos, and breathtaking live-action imagery.
Mason Thames steps into the character of Hiccup, while Nico Parker assumes the part of Astrid in this adaptation. The ensemble includes Gerard Butler, Nick Frost, and Julian Dennison in supporting roles. Butler returns to his role as Stoick the Vast, linking the original animated film with its live-action reboot by providing continuity.
In the discussion about the remake, DeBlois emphasized the chance to delve deeper into the characters and world-building. “Given the tight production timeline and constraints on resources for the original DreamWorks film,” he revealed at a trailer presentation, “there were aspects we couldn’t fully explore.” He pointed out that the live-action version provides an opportunity for a more subtle treatment, fostering stronger relationships, character growth, and a more intricate mythology.
One significant change is the enrichment of Astrid’s background story. As portrayed by Nico Parker, Astrid’s cultural origins are emphasized, suggesting a deeper exploration of her character that distinguishes this version from the original.
Audience members will be able to reconnect with Hiccup and Toothless as the movie takes flight in cinemas starting June 13. You can preview the entire trailer right up there.
