Expelled! challenges you to clear your name by catching the culprit or framing someone else

  • A girl has been pushed out of a window, and you’re blamed for it
  • Every choice of yours affects the characters around you
  • No two runs will feel the same

Miss Mulligatawney’s School for Exceptional Girls finds itself in a predicament. One of its prefects has been suspiciously shoved out of a window, and all fingers are pointing at you. In the new mystery game, Expelled!, published by inkle, creators of Overboard!, you have just one day to prove your innocence or find someone else willing to shoulder the blame.

In the month of April 1922, the narrative unfolds around Verity Amersham, a scholarship student at a prestigious boarding school, portrayed by Amelia Tyler (Baldur’s Gate 3). For years, Verity has strived to avoid any trouble. However, when she is falsely accused of an attempt on someone’s life, avoiding trouble becomes impossible.

In this game, it’s not just about selecting dialogue options; every decision you make regarding actions, locations, conversations, and words spoken have a significant impact on the storyline’s development. Characters in the school environment move dynamically and respond based on their observations and hearings. Some will offer assistance, while others might attempt to undermine you. Who among them can be trusted?

You have the chance to unravel the enigma, but you could also deceive, mislead or manipulate your way out of trouble. If you need an alibi, persuade someone else to vouch for you. In a tight spot? Accuse someone else instead. The more you bend or break the rules, the more paths seem to appear.

Each session typically spans between 30-45 minutes, yet no two experiences are identical. The decisions you make open up fresh leads, result in varying outcomes, and uncover mysteries scattered across the school. Unravel the mystery behind the locked cellar or your friend’s secretive behavior. And if you manage to dodge expulsion, you might even advance to the prestigious position of Head Girl.

In the background of jazz greats such as George Gershwin, Louis Armstrong, and Bessie Smith, Expelled! merges an intense mystery with a fluid narrative that’s constantly evolving. Whether you fight for your innocence or go to extreme lengths to prove it, the choice is yours entirely.

Expelled! arrives March 12th on Steam, Nintendo Switch, and iOS.
