Disneyland’s Galaxy’s Edge Gets Big Change, Disney World Should Follow

At D23 in Anaheim, Bob Iger made an exhilarating announcement: instead of just one, Star Wars was getting two new lands at Disney parks! Excited fans learned that not only would Disneyland and Disney World receive the now-famous Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, but both lands would be almost identical in design, ensuring no one would feel left out.

To clarify, from the start, Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland and Disney’s Hollywood Studios had aesthetic variations, but their core elements such as land layout, food options, and attractions have been quite similar. Lately, though, these areas have grown increasingly distinct, which seems inconsistent. It would be ideal if they could both align more closely, allowing characters from Disneyland to appear at Disney World too.

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Origianl Concept Wasn’t Bad, But It Was Too Limiting

The initial plan for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge was a groundbreaking move towards complete immersion in themed entertainment. Instead of just being a land filled with Star Wars-related items, the vision was to make it feel like a genuine part of the Star Wars universe. With the help of Walt Disney Imagineering, they developed the unique world of Batuu and situated the land within this universe, even setting it during the Sequel Trilogy timeline.

If you’re a fan who dreams of experiencing your own “Star Wars” journey, this could be quite enjoyable! Instead of treating guests like visitors to a regular theme park, Disneyland Cast Members would interact with them as if they were tourists on an alien planet. Characters from the “Star Wars” universe wouldn’t just pose for pictures; they would roam around as inhabitants, adding a sense of realism. You might even catch a mini-performance when a stormtrooper spots Chewbacca!

Regrettably, while Galaxy’s Edge was the star attraction of this land, it also presented a challenge due to its setting within the Sequel Trilogy. This meant that iconic Star Wars characters from previous stories wouldn’t make an appearance. So, legends like Luke Skywalker and Han Solo never got a chance to visit Batuu. The only sighting of Darth Vader would be Kylo Ren instead.

Disneyland Began To Break With The Timeline

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge debuted at Disneyland in 2019, and it maintained its chronology for roughly three years. However, that changed when it was disclosed that The Mandalorian and Grogu would make appearances within Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. These characters were the initial ones introduced from beyond the original timeline, but they weren’t the only ones to follow.

Just as each addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe has introduced a fresh Marvel character within Avengers Campus, every new Star Wars show on Disney+ introduces new characters in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. Characters like Boba Fett, Ahsoka Tano, and Sabine Wren have all made appearances at different times.

It’s worth noting that all these recently introduced characters have made their debut exclusively in Disneyland’s version of the galaxy. Conversely, The Mandalorian and Grogu are the only ones who have occasionally appeared at Disney’s Hollywood Studios’ Galaxy’s Edge within Disney World. The apparent preference for these characters might be due to the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser experience, although the exact reason remains undisclosed.

The Galactic Starcruiser Story May Have Controlled The Galaxy’s Edge Story

If Disney’s themed entertainment made a leap even beyond the remarkable Galaxy’s Edge, it was undoubtedly the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser. This immersive, multi-day Star Wars experience allowed guests to immerse themselves in its intricate narrative, with their own stories woven into the Sequel Trilogy era. Notably, the Starcruiser was physically connected to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, and the narratives of both were intertwined.

The storyline aboard the Starcruiser, featuring travels to the alien planet Batuu, mirrors experiences found in a theme park. Since events within the ship might correspond with those in the park, it’s not always feasible for encounters like meeting Rey on the Starcruiser and then running into Ahsoka Tano on Batuu to occur naturally.

Regrettably, the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser has ceased operations. It shut down in 2023 and is now being transformed into offices for Walt Disney Imagineering. This means it won’t be providing any new Star Wars experiences for guests in the near future. With this closure confirmed, it seems fitting to enhance Disney World’s Galaxy’s Edge with characters similar to those that have been a part of Disneyland for many years.

Bring Luke Skywalker (And More) To Walt Disney World

1) At Disneyland’s Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, the latest development has revolutionized the experience. Starting from March with Disneyland’s Season of the Force, Luke Skywalker will make his first appearance at Disneyland. This marks the initial instance of a main character from the Original Trilogy being present at Disneyland, strongly suggesting that the original timeline no longer exists.

If it’s true for California, it should hold for Florida as well. Here’s hoping we’ll witness the long-awaited arrival of Luke Skywalker, Ahsoka, and other characters who have yet to grace Florida with their presence.

Or:

If it applies in California, then it should apply in Florida too. It would be great if we could finally welcome Luke Skywalker, Ahsoka, and the rest of the characters who haven’t been seen in Florida before.

Both sentences convey the same meaning but are slightly different in their structure and phrasing.

To prevent chaos, let’s make sure no characters portraying Kylo Ren and Darth Vader are present simultaneously in Batuu. This way, fans can immerse themselves in a Star Wars universe, though it may seem as if events take place in various eras or at distinct times of the day.

As a dedicated Star Wars enthusiast, I can’t help but express my longing for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge to have thrived as initially envisioned, much like my yearning for the continued existence of Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser. Both ideas were truly groundbreaking and sadly didn’t resonate with visitors for various reasons. Now, it’s high time that Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge captivates every single Star Wars fan out there. Let’s gather all the beloved characters from all our favorite tales and offer an equally immersive experience to guests at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World.
