Keanu Reeves’ Constantine 2: Dead or Alive?

For years now, enthusiasts of the DC universe have eagerly waited for the reappearance of one of its most mysterious figures in cinema: Keanu Reeves’ character John Constantine. Despite multiple setbacks, cancellations, and more recent whispers, a fresh hint indicates that the long-stalled sequel to the 1997 film may very well be on track for those who have been steadfastly holding out hope for its realization.

In a conversation with Collider, film director Francis Lawrence shared some intriguing insights regarding the potential return of Constantine 2. While his comments didn’t provide definitive answers, they definitely ignited discussions about the feasibility of this long-awaited project coming to life. Lawrence hinted at the sequel by saying:

We’re almost ready to start work on a follow-up, and that’s fantastic news! Plus, Akiva, Keanu, and I can hardly contain our enthusiasm about it.

Indeed, a much-anticipated movie faces numerous obstacles, but nothing has been definitively decided yet. The main challenge will likely be determining where the sequel fits into the larger DC scheme, given that it would presumably belong to the “Elseworlds” category, similar to projects like The Batman and Joker, which exist outside of the regular DC Universe.

Will ‘Constantine 2’ Actually Happen?

One can only be absolutely sure that “Constantine 2” is in the works once DC Studios provides an official confirmation, sets a production start date, and announces a release schedule. However, there’s always the possibility that it might turn into a regrettable tax deduction.

The journey leading up to this point hasn’t always been easy-going. For a considerable length of time, speculation about a Constantine follow-up has circulated extensively in the realm of rumors. Although the initial Constantine performed well, it didn’t achieve the level of success needed for a sequel to take flight back then. However, with the surge of interest in nostalgic legacy sequels fueled by today’s global trend, this updated version of Constantine now has a stronger possibility of being produced than ever before.

Over the past few years, Reeves has reprised some of his iconic characters, notably Neo in “The Matrix Resurrections” and Ted in “Bill & Ted Face the Music”. Although these performances received varying responses, it hasn’t stopped fans from requesting that Reeves resurrect John Constantine for another intense portrayal as the DC Comics sorcerer.

It’s equally likely that “Constantine 2” may never materialize as it is for it to hit the screens within the next two to three years. The only thing we can be sure of at this point is that everyone involved appears determined to bring it to life, and with unwavering support from fans, especially of Reeves’ portrayal, some surprising productions have been successful in Hollywood.
